This year, with a new coaching staff and a new offense, status means nothing. That's refreshing to players like Wallace, Moore and Pruitt.

The Dolphins are straddling a tight rope when it comes to the receiver position. One foot if firmly placed on rethreads like Chad Ochocinco, a 34-year-old receiver who is attempting a comeback from his most disappointing NFL season, and Legedu Naanee, a journeyman. The other rests on this group of unproven receivers whom the organization believes has potential.

The hope is that someone, anyone, steps up and becomes a flanker the team's quarterbacks can rely on.

Personally, I think that Bess is a good slot guy and Hartline is also good at being what he is, a #2 or 3 guy. Problem is, besides the disappointment of Marshall, we haven't anyone to really be a top flight player out there. I don't know if Chad Johnson can still be that type of player, probably not, but he will still require enough attention from defenses, hopefully, that is makes it easier for Bess and Hartline to work.

As for the rookie crop of receivers, you have to expect that SOMEONE, ANYONE, will be able to step up and make a little noise. You'd hope!

Sun-Sentinel SUCKS with there pop-up adds.

Just had to get that out of my system...

The only player that really has the "ability" to be a playmaker is Mathews. Everyone else lacks the quick burst ability as well as the straight speed. Fuller doesn't have it, Cunningham doesn't have, and Naanee just kinda sucks.

Hartline is a damn fine #2. I've said it all along and I truly believe it. He's got fantastic body language, good hands, and instincts for the sideline. But... no. Nobody on our current unit has the makings of a Victor Cruz.

I think that's the biggest question of the season. I believe Miami will use the tight ends a lot in this offense and both Reggie Bush and Lamar Miller will see a lot of balls thrown their way. I would love to see Roberto Wallace emerge as he's the one guy who is most similar to Brandon Marshall in being that big guy that can go up and get the ball. My best guess, after signing Chad Ochocino Johnson, is that the young players aren't emerging the way the coaching staff had hoped. It's probably an area that will be addressed in the draft or free agency next year.

I think at least one of them will.

They've had the opportunity now to work closely with Brandon Marshall and to watch Ocho as well.

New players develope every year, it is the way of the NFL.

If you listen to fools the mob rules. :d-day:

Wait... how did these rookies have the opportunity to work with Brandon Marshall? And what does that have to do with their playmaking ability? Marshall wasn't a master of anything, he's just incredibly gifted as an athlete so he was almost impossible to stop.

One of them is bound to surprise us. Who that WR is is anybody's guess right now.

Hopefully one of the rookies can step up and make an impact right away. Heck, hopefully Hartline will finally have a break through season. Goodness knows it would help tremendously if one of the receivers can bust out and have a 1,000-1,100+ yard season.

Yesterday while I was scrolling thru the Direct TV menu I saw a Willie Nelson concert. His back up band's name totally cracked me up, especially considering Willie's reputation. They're called 'Asleep at the wheel'. :chuckle:

Wallace, Moore and Pruitt aren't rookies. They've had time to practice with Brandon and watch how he runs his routes & pushes off. Last year both Wallace & Moore spoke about learning from Marshall.

I still think Clyde Gates has the chance to have an amazing year. If we could just put some glue on his hands, I can see him developing into a Mike Wallace type of receiver. Everyone either forgets him or has him being cut, but I think he deserves a shot. I didn't love him on returns, poor decision-making, IMO, but he never really got his opportunity at receiver last year.

if roberto wallace has learned to push off that will really be big for him when it comes to separating...he needs to use that big body more on these smaller dbs anyways...although if he does push off i doubt he's gonna get much benefit of the doubt from nfl officials til he establishes himself as a player in the league...
