You know, after the JT trade, MIA created a bunch of cap space which a portion of it, must be used per league rules.

This has me thinking. The fact that MIA has reported that they will not be extending certain current players just yet...who are they waiting to spend this new found cap money on?

Well, we know that Terry Glenn isn't going to cost as much as we have, so we will be signing someone else. I know that Bentley is still out there...and soon, so could Brett Favre.

Right now, our defense looks like our strong point and seems to be giving our sorry offense the fits. At least, our QBs fits.

With Carey, Satele, and the newly acquired Smiley and Long be UPgraded with a Bentley signing?

Could Ginn, Wilford, and Hagan be helped with a Glenn signing?

Could our Henne, Beck or McCown, backup a Favre signing?

Right now, our QBs are looking pretty worrisome. It seems that our OL isn't looking too cool either. Reports also coming out that other than Hagan(who has looked like a superstar so far) our WRs having trouble.

I know many have us struggling in our rebuilding stage for the next 3 or so years....but do we really have to wait that long to get our youngsters along while losing? Or could we assemble a winning team while the rest of our young core gets in gear?

By this I mean, maybe we should use our newly found cap space on Brett Favre and dump the loser of the Beck/McCown battle...on Terry Glenn if for nothing else a backup to Tedd Ginn Jr should he get injured....and LeCharles Bentley to be that 5th starter to what seems to be a 4 deep OL so far...

Not immediate contenders but certainly push us for no.2 behind the Pats..., play -offs still unlikely

Mr Ed as you noted our overall depth is not there give it another year or two..., Favre does make a marked improvement until he runs for his life and gets sacked 5+ a game...

the phins could win nine games with brett, would two years of him give the brass enough time to get beck or henne ready and build the team through the draft, the answer is yes it would, the problem is farve probably does not want to play for a team like the phins right now, it could work if he did

well, with Bentley and Glenn...maybe Brett would be interested. Our defense already looks the part of top 5 in the league...

Porter is going to be having a Pro Bowl year now that JT is gone...

Favre already said he does not want to go to any place that is hot. Miami is hot. lol

1984 Dan Marino couldn't lead this team to the playoffs. I don't understand why someone would want to lose a draft pick for a guy who gives us nothing.

Favre is too old. He's at the end of his career. I honestly don't see him playing after this year. LaCharles Bently, from what I've heard, got a staph infection in his knee and that staph quite literally destroyed everything in that knee. I don't think he'll do us any good. I'd rather take a shot with Donald Thomas, who seems to be impressing in camp.

I think he would be very valuable to the Dolphins. Let's face it, first year QB starters don't particularly do well at all. Peyton Manning got crushed his rookie season. if they were able to get Favre, even though he is old, is still one of the top 5 qb's in the league, and not only that, Henne can learn a ton from Favre, which would make him a lot better in another season or so when he finally starts.

It would make sense for the Fins to do it. They won't make the playoffs this year, so plan for the future of Henne

exactly. I hate giving away draft picks to begin with. I hate it even more when draft picks are given for players with a couple years left at best. The ONLY time that ever makes sense is it losing that pick gives a shot at going past the first round of the playoffs. I don;t think bringing in Favre even gets us to the playoffs.

Sorry, I would rather keep the pick. unless it's going to be a lower pick, and I just don't see that happening.

How do we go from the worst team in football to a defense that looks like a top 5 in the league. This is training camp right, everyones defense looks like a top five defense going against the same guys every day. Don't get me wrong I'm optimistic about our season but outside of P.Manning and maybe Brady no one would come in and make us contenders.

Ronnie and Ricky will make us look more respectable than what we really are. And we are a couple years away from contending IF all goes well drafting ad FA's.

Lets look at last season in a nut shell going forward to this season....

DBs - stats were good but teams ran all over us which skews that.

LBs - only two return and one CC is full of potential but hasn't done anything to make you believe he'll reach it. And we've lost one of the best LB's the NFL has seen.

DL - Basically scrapped and we've started over except VH. No where to go but up.

OL - 3 new starters = needs time to jell so patients will be needed

TEs - do we really have one, everyone hopes so but we thought that last year. The run game will help make this area improve through playaction dumps but I'm not expecting anything special.

WRs - One of our biggest weakness last year and not alot has changed, yes they'll be better but thats not hard to be.

QBs - still a huge ?, and no matter what Henne and Beck will need a couple of years to show signs of life.

Rbs - Bar none the only bonifide top 5 position group of backs but still with question marks because of RB's injury.

The bottom line is were full of potential and generally to assume all this potential will be reached in the same year is for dreamers.

I love the direction were going in and as we improve this year and next we could be back to the playoffs year in and year out. 7 wins this year would mean everything fell into place for us but 5 wins is alot more realistic.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm excited about some of new players out there and it sounds like they could be a good unit, but top 5? I don't see it either.

We have TWO 2nd round picks, because of the JT trade, so why not use one to sign Favre up?....he could play two more years, and groom Beck and Henne. I have no issues with McCown either, but I think Beck and Henne are the future. I think we would win 9 games with Favre this year and maybe make the playoffs. I would be talking with the Packers to see if a 2nd rounder might interest them. I would not give them a first. Lets do it before the Jets grab him.
