The play in which I'm referring to:

2nd to last play before the half. Brees pass to Colston...Colstons knees hit ground before the ball passes the plane. The refs call it a touchdown...immediately upon this moment the clock stops at 5 seconds (as if it was a TD as the clock should have) ...we hear absolutely nothing of a timeout called.

As soon as its decided that the ball was downed right before the goaline...the commentators mention that miami called the timeout. WHY and HOW could we call a timeout when everyones point of view after the play was that it was a TD?????? How does Sparano get their attention, how do the refs acknowledge the timeout before they know its NOT a TD????The clock stops at 5 seconds. Its ruled a TD. HOW do you call a timeout AFTER that when the interpretation is that its a TD? The clock would automatically stop...but the moment its been decided that the ball was DOWNED then the clock should run off!!!!!! And if someone did have a timeout...how can you all of a sudden be like OK...well were going to start the clock now that we know whats up and you have 5 seconds to call a timeout....GO!

Wasnt N.O. out of timeouts???

At what point did we call a TO during all this mess? WHY would we? The clock would have ran out. They had no timeouts. That means NO FG. NO TD.

None of it makes sense.

After it was reviewed and the ball set, New Orleans was setting up to kick a field goal when Sparano called the time out. New Orleans then changed their mind and went for the TD. Sparano took responsibility for the mistake today.

The clock is stopped during the review obviously, they ruled he was down at the 1 yard line. Once the ref blew the whistle clock would have restarted and they would have been lined up already to kick, but dolphins coach called the timeout because he had wrong personnel on field. Wouldnt have mattered much since it would have been a rushed fg what would be the diff between the fg block def and base def he should have just let the clock run out. Once he called the timeout, saints regrouped and went for it rest is history

Actually I don't think Sparano himself called the timeout. I'm pretty sure it was Crowder, and Coach did not overrule the decision.

"I have to take ownership of the situation that happened at the end of the half," Sparano said. "I always have the power of trump, and I did not do that. I should have lived with what was out on the field in that situation."

That's his quote. Am I wrong?

No. I read a report that Crowder and Sparano looked at each other when Crowder called it, hence the comment about trumping the call.

Either way, that play didn't lose the game for us. We shouldn't have allowed a score before the half, but the 4th quarter meltdown killed the game for us. We were up 10 going into the 4th and scored 0 points to their 22 in the most important quarter of the game.

IMO this was the start of the downfall. NO getting 7 right at the end of the half was the difference in the end.
