Actually I do. It's better than hearing the knee jerk reaction from FH fans. You can get close to a real assessment of players when you are at the games. I'm waiting.
You basically saw today what a QB can do and what a QB cannot do. Romo (even being out 7 weeks) can do. Tannehill just cannot do.
I said that many times after home games that we do have open receivers especially on 3rd and long. But for one reason or another Tannehill believes in stat padding short throws.
Romo on the other hand uses his open receivers cold blooded. He extends the play to make sure his receivers can get open. I think the 2nd and 26 play for the Cowboys was all you needed to know. We put decent pressure on Romo but he made a couple of nifty moves without taking his eyes downfield. And then just made the throws needed.
Just like any other home game I do like to watch with one eye the rest of the field. I almost missed the pick 6 because of that (we had couple open receivers on that play as well).
To answer your question: yes we do have open receivers. That's one of the reasons I do not believe anymore that he will actually develop into a franchise QB. I do hope but my believe is gone. The occasional good throw does not make up for the boneheaded throws. The stat padding short passing game does not make up for open receivers further downfield. When in year 4 you are consistently throwing short of the sticks or short on 3rd and long then your clock is done ticking. People can call on Lazor as much as you want to but there is no OC in the world who tells his offense "let's not go for a first down". Sorry I don't buy it.
The only time Tannehill throws deep is if he has 3-4 seconds in the pocket. But that is not the average. I believe the average is 2 to 2.5 seconds. We call that a bad OL and Romo calls that an inconvenience and he extends that play in critical situations.
I was talking to some FHers today at the tailgate party. And I told Daytona that Tannehill is just to inconsistent. We are not talking about it on a game by game basis but inside one game. What you saw today is Tannehill at its best. Inconsistent. Occasional the good throw. And stat padding short and medium passing game.
I am not a Romo fan. I don't even like him. But today you saw the difference between a good QB who takes advantage and excels in critical situations and an average QB who just plays down his 60 minutes and is pleased if a game does not hurt his stats. And let's not forget that Romo was out 7 weeks.
