The playoff situation if the Ravens lose tonight (which they look like doing), and then both the Ravens and the Fins win out, who wins the tie-breaker? I've got a feeling it comes down to common games but i don't know how that applies to games such as their game against the Pats given that the Pats are in our division and we play them twice and our game against the Steelers. Can anyone enlighten me what would be the outcome?

TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM

If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.
  1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker.
  2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.
Two Clubs

  1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
  2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
  4. Strength of victory.
  5. Strength of schedule.
  6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
  7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  8. Best net points in conference games.
  9. Best net points in all games.
  10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  11. Coin toss.

if we both win out the conference records will be the same
That's precisely my point and common games is the next tie breaker. Does our game against the Steelers and their game against the Pats count as common games?

If Fins win out going 10-6 and Ravens lose tonight and win their final 4 and finish 10-6, Ravens would get in over us... However, IF the Ravens go 9-7 and the Dolphins go 9-7 with a loss coming from the Titans, we would get into the playoffs (assuming of course that the Jaguars lose to us, colts, and new england)

Please explain...

Damn when is NFL going to get more than just 6 teams into Playoffs?
