I dont get it. I just dont understand why some teams would want to just RELEASE their best player.Why would you do this if your a GM? Is it to make a statement to the team or what? Swallow your pride and just TRADE HIM! Why are they realeasing players that are top notch guys instead of trading them for someone in return. Is there something im missing? First it was T.O. then theres talk about Moulds, Moss, and such. Why dont teams just trade away the great players that dont fit in with the team anymore?
 
Salary Cap if you trade them you take on their whole signing bonus. If you cut them you can save money.
 
There are a few reasons I can think of:

1) It sends a signal to the team about who is in charge and what the consequences of not falling in line are.
2) There are times when nobody is going to trade for a player. Releasing him is the only option.

With that said, I'll believe that some of these guys are getting released when I see it. This tends to happen only in cases where a team wants to use the franchise tag and the player cries about it so much that it's clear he will ruin team chemistry (see: Trotter).
 
It depends on the Cap situation if you had the room to that then I would say yes. I think Buffalo Franchised Pearless Price instead of letting him go to free Agency an then traded him to the Falcons. The raiders traded Randy Moss to the Raiders.

:eek: Who did they get for him? Lamont Jordan?
 
I believe they got a Linebacker who's name escapes me and a first round pick.
