What is the difference between Gus Frerotte and David Carr???

I see people getting riled up about trading Ricky and a draft pick for Carr (which i am opposed to doing), but what has David Carr done that Gus Frerrotte hasn't??

If anything Frerotte would be the better option, he has more experience, he's proven he can lead a team into the playoffs...and he proved he can win some late games as he showed with our team...

why would some of you want to go get an unproven QB who's lost a whole lot more games than he's won???

I don't get it, people around here act like David Carr is the next Brett Favre...

David Carr is no better than Frerrotte....so let's just keep Ricky and our draft picks and re-structure frerotte....if it aint broken dont fix it.

and please dont tell me it was the Texans O-line that made Carr look bad, because I dont think Frerrotte has played with a worse O-line than the one we had this year....wake up people.

Im not for the trade either cause Im not sold on Carr but to say there is no difference is a strecth. Gus has started like 3 times in a 12 year career. Carr has tons of potential playing on a crappy team whos media expectations were blown wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy outta proportion to the amount of talent on that team.

Frerrotte - 50% comp with superior talent at skill positions and good protection
Carr - 60% comp with inferior talent and NO protection. 2nd leading rusher amongst QB's. Youth. Has improved every year.

I agree. If Carr was considered a "significant upgrade", it would be another story. He's not, and losing Ricky + a 3rd round draft pick, would be a horrible trade IMO...

Keep Ricky, and let Frerotte battle it out with someone else. Someone we don't have to trade Ricky for....

PHINZ RULE!!!

There is a tremendous amount of difference between the two, most importantly, Frerotte is what he is...a career backup QB probably not capable of doing any better than he did this season. Carr is a potential. He fits Linehan's scheme well (his strengths match Linehan's needs) and he needs a change of scenery from Houston where he was beat to death the last 3 years. Obviously, you don't want to give away the farm to get him or any other QB for that matter, but he represents what we don't have here in the QB position...potential...There is perhaps more. With an improve OL and the schemes we run, he could be very good in this offense. He is much more accurate in the mid-to-long range passing than Gus ever was and he has room to grow. He isn't the next Favre or Marino, but he's a darn site better than what we have now and have had for 7 years.

im sure Cleo Lemon has all of this as well.

we need a QB with an arm....

That's a fact. I we had a long gun with youth, accuracy, mobility and a head on his shoulders, well, we'd have ourselves a very good if not great QB - so can we turn the clock back and get Danny in year 1? please, Santa, please, please...

Im not willing to give 100% of a running game for 10% more of a QB

thats what im talking about...i mean if we're going all out, we should at least shoot for the stars...if we're going to give up a top RB in the league then we should be shooting for a top QB in the league...a proven one.

The Texans know what theyre getting in RW...and they also know they're losing a guy who has done no better than the guy who will replace him...its absurd....

I am only willing to get carr as a FA

if it,s in a trade it shall be for something we can sompensate we cant get carr and a 3rd rounder for ricky and a 5 than thats a good trade not ricky and a 3rd for carr

100% ? Did you forget about Ronnie Brown?

I'm on the fence about the trade, but O-line is not the only determining factor that has Carr where he is today. The Texans (expansion franchise) has more to his lack of development. The kid has a LOT of potential still and with our coaching staff and organizational backing, there are a few guys who may flourish here where they floundered elsewhere.

If you look at it from just results you have a good point. However, the difference is in the ceiling of each player. Frerotte is limited, pure and simple. After being in the league for all this time, it's fairly probable that he can only take you so far.

Carr, on the other hand, still has a great deal of upside. I don't think most of the people on the board think he's Brett Favre, but they do see the possiblity of untapped potential.

Will he ever reach that potential? Who knows. But some people would rather take a chance that better surroundings might do the trick rather than having a QB that will only take you to a level short of a true SB contender.

Do you really think Ricky Williams is going to net us a prime QB, or even that one is available to be had? No matter how well Ricky does his value in trade will almost always be limited by 3 failed drug tests and a sudden retirement.

I'd love to see us shoot for the stars too. But that's much easier said than done. Sometimes you get stuck having to take a chance on what's actually obtainable.
