and say with a straight face that they took the BPA? If we reach for a RT at 19, Hickey will have exposed himself as Ireland 2.0. To say that we have to take a RT with our first pick is short sighted. There will be obviously better players on the board than these second and third tier lineman. I am so sick of the phins making desperation moves, I could puke. Here's to not puking tonight, but I'll have my bucket handy just in case.

If any gm takes Kouandjio at 19 he needs to be medically tested to see if he is clinically insane

The last couple of years have shown me teams are willing to reach on OL help. I don't really see how any of them would be desperation moves (though I do not want Kuandijio and am iffy on Moses) when your OL was as bad as ours was.

Is it a tough sell? Sure. Ideally we could trade down a few spots and get a few more picks. But I wouldn't call it desperation.

It could happen....it will piss off the fan base, but if Tannehill gets hit less they will be happy.

There is't any guarantee that Tanny won't get hit any more than last year due to one rookie 1st rounder. Kouandjio and James may not be able to transition to the next level. Call it what you want but passing on better players to fill needs is desperation to me. Elevating O-lineman due to their longevity and ability to contribute right away is different than taking players that are simply filling a need. If the phins take a 2nd round talent in the 1st, we will miss out on some very talented players.

I want the GM to take the player they believe will help the team the most. I don't care where anyone has them rated. I would much rather that they get the guy they want (and "reach") rather than trade back and miss a guy that they really prefer. If there are several guys you like equally well, then fine, trade back if you can. But, do not get cute. Get the guys you need.

Trade down with saints and then you can

If you cant get one of the top four OTs in the 1st round, then just trade up in the 2nd round to get James. I'd rather trade up in the 2nd round than overdraft someone in the first.

I agree it would be a reach, but as mentioned, teams have had to reach in recent years for OL help. Pugh was considered a reach where he was taken and so was Long, both last year. I would say both played better than any OL taken ahead of them. But I agree I would rather go another position in the 1st. Though I will wait to judge.

The problem is often when teams factor in need, they take a less talented player and over the long haul do more harm than good. Maybe Cooks in the slot or Shazier helps the team more than an arthritic RT. If we don't take a RT in the 1st we have 6 more rounds to address the issue and if all else fails our RT from last year is still available. When you only have one option and it's not a desirable one, that is the classic definition of desperation.

I've been thinking about this too. There isn't always a trade partner and if we really like an RT (James) what do you do?

I could see reaching a bit last year because the draft class was so weak, but reaching in the 1st round this year will terrible considering there are so many other good prospects. If there is no viable OT at #19, then trade down or pick some other position, but dont draft a 2nd rounder in the 1st.
