"The Dolphins would be a better team if they still had Patrick Surtain, and didn't have Matt Roth...."

A freind and I were debating on this issue in which we traded with the KC Chiefs... I tried to disagree with this statement, but after further review, I have to agree with this statement...We are hurting so bad on pass coverage, it's not even funny....

I think we will be looking for secondary help next offseason.....all of a sudden that position has become a hole...

:shakeno:

We wouldn't be 8-1 or 7-2, but still Surtain would help. I was upset when I heard he left, Madison is and was the #2 corner, now we need a #1 again. I'm all for Nate Clements to the Dolphins, I hear other people making more absurd wishes but I think this one is more real. (Unless the Jills resign him)

Of course right now we would be better off with Surtain. We didn't get rid of Surtain b/c he is a bad corner. We had to drop his pay. The highest bidder was KC who gave us the Matt Roth pick. He is for the FUTURE, not present. After a few injuries to our secondary, of course Saban will be second guessed b/c we need Surtain more.
Roth= hopefully better team in future.
Surtain= expensive but would be better for team right now.

Not to be mean but, how long did you have to think about this?

I would love to see Clements in a Fin uni.

We probably would, but the reason Pat isn't here has nothing to do with the fact that Matt is. Pat had to go due to salary cap, nothing else. So what is your point?

lol

why do some of you continue to diss our secondary.

They are playing extremely well.

There were 2 blown coverages that lead to TD'S. 1 was the long bomb on Howard's guy(which is expected) the other was when Taylor blew coverage. Come on he is a lineman.

They played extremely well.

Not only that but until that drive with the bogus PI call against Daniels did you realize that the Pats were 0-8 on 3 and 8+ yards. Every play was a passing play and everytime the secondary shut it down or INT'D. It was the secondary that knocked that pass away in the endzne.

It was a lineman and a backup CB that gave up the TD'S.

This secondary is getting better and better by the week.

Also Daniels is playing lights out. The best compliment a CB can get is when his name isn't mentioned all game which means his WR ain't catching the ball. Daniels name didn't come up unless he was tackling in the running game or that PI call.

you would not only give up Roth, but also some serious cap space.

Man do people twist things up.

Its not like we traded Surtain straight up for Roth. We got a second round draft pick out of that trade.

Now, I think many people realize that we intended to take C. Webster, the LSU CB with that pick. So, trading away a over priced veteran CB for a young CB that has as much promise as Surtain and already knows the defense, makes sense.

Its messed up that the Giants took him ahead us, but had we gotten the guy we wanted with that second round pick, it would have been an awesome trade. We get a younger CB, that already knows the system, and we save a ton in cap space for this offseason.

As for the Roth vs Surtain thing, we'll see how Roth develops. If he starts posting up some 8-9 sack seasons, it'll be worth it.

Oh yeah and we would definitely be a better team had we gotten a QB in the 2nd round rather then Roth.

I mean Pat leaving hurt us but not as much as some of you think.

Just look at the loss of MOss in Minny. That is a loss.
Pitt stinks without Roethlisberger.

HOwever Miami is still decent and competitive without Surtain.

Don't get me wrong he is one of the best in the game. I just think getting rid of him helped more then hurt.

Also look at our cap next year. we are over 20 million under which means we could sign the #1 draft pick, get a free agent QB like a Brees pay him top dollar and still get a guy like Clements to fill in at CB if we wanted too.

In the long run of 2-3 season later getting rid of Surtain was probably the best thing for the team.

Agree with Clements coming to the Dolphins, unfortunately I believe Buffalo will be giving him what he wants in order to keep him.

Not going to happen. The reason we got rid of Surtain was for $$. The reason the Bills have not resigned Clements, YET, is because he thinks he deserves the $$ of a top 5 corner in the NFL. That is more than what we were paying Surtain.

That is true, because had we kept pat, we probably wouldn't have drafted Daniels. Which means, when Poole got hurt, we'd still be stuck with Howard.

The CB problem would still be there, we'd just be a little bit better at starting CB with Surtain instead of Daniels, however, Daniels is progressing well.

It would be worse with surtain here, because with his due salary our cap would not support all the signings we had this offseason..so we would be with more holes than we are now

You have got to be kidding me....It was a slap in the face....it was as if New England was telling us "we're going to pass" when we had the lead...and ridiculously enough we still couldn't stop them.... That's what you call a slap in the face
