We've got to be one of the worst shot yardage teams in the league, Can we give L Polite a call even Javorski Lane.

Thomas is a big back but he just runs with 0 leverage he's miserable in short yardage situation, not that his line is helping as much as it should but we need to start converting these 3&1's
 
Daniel Thomas is probably the worst short yardage RB in the history of the NFL. He crumbles like a house of cards upon contact. I'm sick of watching him.
 
Clay has done well in the very few times theyve used him as a rusher in short yardage. I'd like to see more of that.
 
I'm sure that Lane is probably stocking shelves somewhere. He's not great but he's gotta be better than anything we've got right now.

It won't matter though until we learn to block interior pressure. I've never seen a team get blown up in the middle of the line as much as we do on the runs.
 
Heh. I was kind of thinking during the game how Thomas seems to always come up just shy of the first down. If it's second and 9, he'll get 7. On third and 2, he'll pick up 1.
 
QB sneak on that 3d and inches should have been called. Tannehill should have no issue getting that short yardage behind Pouncey and Incognito.
 
Bad calls on 3rd and inches. QB sneak with your 6'4" QB ? Nope? Okay.

Play action bootleg with your former 1,000 yard receiver at QB? Nope? Okay.

Slow-developing run play with no fullback on the roster handed off to a guy who has consistently shown to be bad at 3rd and short? Yep.
 
We also run the same damn play every time. How about a playaction or a bootleg once in a while to keep the defense from just stacking the middle?
 
I think what you want is a short yardage C, RG and LG. That's what we lack. Pouncey is quick, fast, and a good player, but he's no smashmouth piledriving C. He's a finesse guy. John Jerry has the physical ability, but he's a prancing pass blocker, not a hog. We have exactly 1 good run blocking interior lineman ... Richie Incognito, and it looks like he got hurt in the Halloween Bengals game. Given his salary, I doubt he's back next year.

So, you could get Jerome Bettis ... he'd still not convert those 3rd and 1's. In fact, the only back that could with this OL, is Larry Csonka ... and they broke the mold after they made him. There will never be another Csonka.

I think we did that one time early in the game with the fake to the HB and the give to Clay when he broke the tackle and got like 14 yards. I think we run these outside runs on short yardage because we know that our interior lineman can't hold up.
 
Let Tanne sneak it or playaction bootleg. We should get 1 yard 90% of the time. C'mon man!
