having passed on WR in the draft and no big FA to speak of, don't be surprised to see keyshawn in a dolphins uni next year.
i think this is a good idea too. his mouth is a thing of the past, and he couldn't respect parcells more. great blocker, great hands, perfect for a #1. he wouldn't cost us much, he would only be here a year or 2 tops, so when he is gone if ginn is ready for the #1 spot, put him in. if not, go after a young #1. whoever is our QB next year needs a target like keyshawn to have any shot at success next year.
this is maybe the only position where a stop gap makes sense. we have to have a #1 next year - who will it be? pretty sure parcells is counting on keyshawn to come play in miami. this move makes sense.
You can't have a possesion receiver at #1.
No thanks.
why not?
why wouldn't keyshawn be a good idea?
He is a possesion receiver who quite frankly wasn't very good when he left the game.
I want youth even if they do struggle which they won't. Time to move forward not backwards.
i hear ya. i agree with that philosophy, but we need a WR badly. QB's can't have excuses next year - we need to see what they are made of. and every QB needs a main target - which we certainly do not have.
who is left out there? should we just keep our current guys and bring in some no names and roll the dice? what is your suggestion for a #1 WR next year?
I think that even if you don't have a great corps of receivers, it's vital that you at least seem like you do. That's happened before, and how did it work out? Other teams stacked the box and we couldn't run. Also, if we're not utilizing our receivers much, then it's a mistake to lighten Tedd Ginn's load on returns/kickoffs if you're not planning on using him much as a receiver....what kind of a threat is he if his roles are reduced?I saw this post elsewhere and I agree with it-
I think this draft told us all that Bill Parcells doesn't see this team the way many of us fans do. While we're here talking about the potential of Lorenzo Booker and the future greatness of Ronnie Brown, he traded Lorenzo away and drafted 2 RBs.
If you want to talk about the WRs we have, here's what Parcells might tell you: "I won't be using them much so don't worry about it."
I don't think for a second Parcells is happy with the WRs here. I promise you he hasn't placed any sort of crown atop Ted Ginn's head. That notion is SO beyond what Parcells is capable of doing. I think he completely ignored the WR need we most certainly do have because he has alot more to focus on than that.
Parcells will likely put in place an extremely simplistic approach of rebuilding this team--a team he sees as having very little talent and very little discipline. His approach is probably something focusing on stopping the run on defense and running the ball on offense. Obviously, the O-line picks will help us run the ball while Merling and Langford are more run-stuffing d-linemen as opposed to guys who are going to go chasing down QBs.
Focusing on one area doesn't mean you're happy with other areas. One other interpretation is that we're simply a rebuilding football team under a regime who has to completely patch up two lines. We can't rebuild this team by taking 9 picks from the '08 draft. I can't say I know much, but that I do.
Remember the dolphins were one of the worst teams in NFL history last season just a hair from going 0-16.
Do what we need to do and this year we'll win 6 games. Improve our passing game and develop as a team and we'll win 12 games. Play at a high level the entire year and we'll become an elite team which plays well into the playoffs and plays for the Super Bowl.
It's realistic that we could be playing in a Super Bowl in 2012 (or will the world end first?). The truth is, we have to do certain things to get to that point and right now picking up WRs isn't necessarily part of that.
Roll with what we have and develop our talent. We aren't going to the Super Bowl so we have to be patient and build this thing from the foundation.
It is a process. We are headed in the right direction.
I can already feel things changing for the better.
If they don't develope next year Parcells will bring in someone like Bledsoe and Testeverde. Not saying them but someone like them. Kind of like in Dallas when he gave Quincy a shot before bringing in Bledsoe. McCown figures into the occuasion also.man i would love for that to work out. sounds good.
just one issue. say they don't develop next year - at all - and none of these guys are proven. if beck or henne or whoever has a bad year, and it could be correlated with WR play, do we give beck and/or henne another shot? i just think we need one proven guy before our talent develops to limit the number of excuses people will make for our QB's.
i want to get on with this thing. i am ready to watch my team win. i don't want there to be situations that can be easily avoided. i mean, how much would keyshawn cost? if he was here, how could he hurt this team? (he would not hinder development) this just makes sense to me.
