Senator seeks ban on NFL relocation to Canada

I think this guy has had a few too many Molson's. He'd rather have the CFL than the NFL. Besides, doesn't the CFL play it's games in the summer, like Arena football, so they don't go head-to-head with the NFL?

A senator from British Columbia has introduced a bill hoping to prevent the National Football League from expanding north of the border.

Vancouver senator Larry Campbell introduced the bill earlier this week in an attempt to prevent the NFL from creating an expansion team or relocating a current franchise in Canada.

The move is a response to the decision to have the Buffalo Bills play eight games at the Rogers Centre in Toronto over the next five years.
Campbell believes that move could be a precursor for the Bills eventual relocation to Canada and would lead to the eventual downfall of the Canadian Football League.

"If this plan were to come to fruition, I, together with many others, believe that the CFL's future would be in significant peril," Campbell said when introducing the bill. "As proud Canadians and fans of the CFL, we must make every effort to defend our own brand of football."

Bills Toronto Series Organizers reported in May that 180,000 ticket requests have been registered for the eight games — five regular-season and three exhibition contests — to be played at the Rogers Centre through the 2012 season.

The CFL does play in the summer. No way this guy's proposal will happen... Although I think the Bills should remain where they are.

He sounds like a xenophobic nutbar, or else has some serious coin invested in his favorite CFL team.

Just because the NFL is bigger and much more popular means Canada should sacrifice it's own game? I think not.

The bills and their fans are trying to keep the bills out of Canada too, so this is good news for me. One, maybe two games in Canada is enough for the NFL and they should be pleased with that.

If the bills play in Canada the Canadians will think all nfl teams suck.

1. The CFL season is played till November. Although the Season starts over the summer months, it has nothing to do with competing with NFL, it's based on climate.

2. I agree with Larry Campbell in some respects. I don't believe for one minute the NFL would effect the game across Canada, but what it will do is more than likely loose the CFL team in Toronto.

3. The two leagues are far too different to compare. The rules are too different, the size of the field is too different to make any comparisons. It's not only moronic but ignorant to think that you can make any comparrisons.

I love the CFL, I love the NFL. I'm not one that says the NFL would kill any CFL team or vice versa, because what rules do they play on? What field?

I can tell you this that those big NFL bodies on a field that is 65 yards wide and 110 yards long agianst the lighting quick CFL players would make a very interesting game.
