man i just can't belive it really im just hoping we did not make a mistake selecting this kid im going to tell the truth i didn't know much about him when we drafted him. myself i have not been to impressed with him at all im just hoping we drafted the right guy cause there were some good players on that board at #15..

Dont worry, he'll be the starter by mid-season, hes going to be a really good player.

Just because a first round pick isn't starting doesn't mean he was the wrong pick. 1. he came into camp late, 2. we have a VERY complicated defense, takes a LONG time to learn it, 3. Saban had the kid learn both safety AND cornerback, which Saban admits was more than he should have thrown at the kid, 4. Allen has the speed, drive, attitude, intelligence and willingness to learn, just needs time to leanr both the NFL and our defensive schemes.

Did YOU become President of your company after only two months on the job? If not, your company must have hired the wrong person I guess. Geez, give the kid a chance!

Jesus. Come on, dude. It is the first game of the season, and you are paranoid that he isn't starting right off the bat? He came into camp late, and has been forced to try and learn two different positions quickly. There is a learning curve, you know. Is Jimmy Williams going to start on Sunday for Atlanta? How about Cromartie for San Diego? These things take time. Usually the only time you see high first round DB's start right away is when they play for lousy teams who have no better options.

Allen will get there, but have a little patience.

Give the guy a break, he's a rookie coming into a very complicated defensive system in which several of our veteran defensive stars even said they had problems with. It's unreasonable to think that every draft pick will have an immediate impact on any team, some do, but most take a few years to reach their potential.

im just saying he was ok in college all the highlights i see of him is getting run over im hoping he comes around belive me i just have not been to impressed with him and ive seen his college highlights nothing great to say the least...

yah he's a rookie.... actually he's been a pro football player for like 2 months...... give him the slightest chance before you second guess Saban for drafting him please. Just because Crowder and Daniels started early last year it doesnt mean Allen should be in there.... we're just not that desperate to throw him to the wolves. We have quality players starting Week 1 at both safety spots.. I'm going to be very patient with this guy because I havent seen ANY safety do too much of anything his rookie year.

alot of rooks never start till late in the season or even at all...just a few come to mind, who eventually became pro bowlers...Terrell Suggs, and Shawne Merriman

to me if your 1st rd pick is not starting it's scary you don't draft a guy in the 1st to sit on the bench unless it's a qb and you have a vetern our weak link is the secondary just in case nobody has been watching he needs to play our secondary does not scare anyone...

I'm glad he isn't starting. He isn't ready. He will just hurt us if he plays today. Besides, Reynaldo Hill and Tillman have played great throughout the season, plus Andre Goodman and Will Allen have shown great potential as well.

Don't worry about it man, everything will be alright.

You're way off base with this comment.

When all the threads were going around saying Allen is a lock to be our starter I was laughing.

1st rounder or not it's not unusual at all for rookies to need adjustment periods. In fact it's very rare to have a rookie that comes into the league and tears it up immediately.

Yes, secondary is looking like a possible weakness but relying on a rookie to solidify it immediately isn't a good plan.

VENT : Honestly, I'm not at all impressed with Allen thus far. He looks completely lost when he's out on the field. Maybe it's due to lack of practice time, but still, this kid was expected to come right in and make our secondary better as a result....

His holdout was one thing, but he's looked horrible on the field too. I have hope for Allen, but I have my doubts as well. I wont call him a bust, but he certainly doesn't play like a first round draft pick.....

I'm glad he's not going to be starting if he's not ready, and obviously he's not.....

that is because the highlight video you saw was a ronnie brown highlight. he did abuse jason allen quite a bit. however, you know why that is? two reasons. first, he was usually the first person to take on the ball carrier. i believe he lead UT in tackles last year (or year before the hip injury). second, he was hitting ronnie when ronnie already had a head of steam.

give the guy a break. saban saw this kid play on a regular basis and i am sure he knows what he got. if he can't beat out the others by mid season or def. by next, then we can all be worried.

Troy Polamalu had nothing more than a Yeremiah Bell-type season when he was a rookie. The Dolphins and Steelers feature very tough defenses for a safety to learn. Nobody should be getting their panties in a bunch about this.
