how many of you are going nuts like me.........i cant wait till free agency starts already im tired of reading about how drew brees might come i want him here already and i hope the cba figures something out already

It looks like the CBA thing will work out and they will get an extension. The bad news is that Free Agency won't start Friday, and it could be as much as TWO more weeks before it starts.

Nubs are you sure? I just saw a report on sports center that said Jerry Jones said that a deal was close in agrevence and said a deal could be reached before the deadline to keep free agency at the scheduled date. Just speculation I guess. I trust you though nubs haha.

Either way Im really excited that there will be a new cba because it would have destroyed football. Great news for NFL fans guys!

Yeah, I said that I think a deal will be done. The thing about it is that after they agree on it, the NFL will give teams a week or two to recalculate their cap status. If a new CBA is reached by Wednesday's deadline, FA will probably start March 10th. If no deal is in place(which would be very horrible), FA will start on time(March 3rd).

So, the best news possible is for the start of Free Agency to be delayed.

EDIT: You can read about why Free Agency will be delayed here: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2347125

Looks like there might be a delay to free agency. But a new CBA would be a very good thing. Then we're talking Brees, L. Bentley and others.

can someone explain the pros and cons of the CBA? what does an extension mean for the league and what happens if no extension is met?

also, which is better for the phins?

It depends on what side of the CBA you are on. The CBA is great for the owners and the teams because it allows them to keep salaries and player movements under some type of control. For the players, not having a CBA means no salary cap, no franchise or transition player tags, and unlimited free agency.

The CBA also benefits retired and injured players who are no longer on a NFL roster by giving them some type of compensation. There are many more pros and cons but these are the ones I tend to focus on.

just from the cap standdpoint, without the CBA, the cap will be around 95 mil and a lot of teams (including miami) will have trouble getting under the cap and signing free agents. if an extension gets done then the cap number I have been seeing is between 102-107 so it is definetly better to get it done for miami as well as everyone else.

Ive heard the Cap will be 112 million once a deal gets done and it should be done by Wednesday. Free agnecy would start a week later.

I think they wanted it higher so teams can keep their own players longer.

Does the extension mean that a player like Brees, won't be a FA until the following week or he'll be a FA on the 3rd, we just wouldn't be able to sign him until the following week?

112 million for wayne to spend?! wowzers that sounds like the florida marlins of 1997. woo hoo.

If that's true, then teams have that much more to re-sign the guys they were looking at letting go (like the Chargers & Brees)....

It's a double edged sword....

I'm not to sure about that because it kind of depends on how the individual contract is worded...if is states Mar. 3, then effective Mar 3, provided no deal is struck, Brees becomes a FA....If the contract states "the date of the new NFL year" then it would, I am assuming, be extended until the official "new NFL year" starts...

That turned out real well in the short term.

As a Braves fan, I can't help but smile at the long term results.
