THIS IS WITH THE ASSUMPTION THAT A NEW DEAL DOESNT GET DONE

I saw that clumpy predicts us at 8 mill over. And then i added up all the money we can save with cuts from an article john clayton wrote on espn.com and i got that we would be about 10 mill under. zach and jason restucture and were looking at 12-13 mill. Then say we get brees for 5 mill. that leaves us at 7 or 8 mill. Would that be enough to sign other small f/a's and sign draft picks??

My understanding JT is that if a new CBA isn't ironed out , it would be very difficult to sign ANY free agents. We would have to actually release some
players just to get under the cap.

Yes we want them to

1- The cap is good for the NFL

2- It makes signings easier for us this year

ok I really don't get it. Do we want them to reach an agreement or no? and Why?

If the CBA ISN"T agree upon by free agency, it will cause all signing bonuses/
incentives to be accellerated into this years cap because 2007 will be an uncapped year. Also any team that could afford to sign any free agents,
will most likely be signing them to a one-year contract.

so wait is the 8 mill over that clumpy projects us at with or without the incentives and bonus's?

I think clump must have been assuming that the CBA would be signed, thus making 2007 a CAPPED year.( he is very good with the cap ).
But, like I said, if an agreement isn't reached, all remaining signing bonuses/
incentives would be accelerated into the 2006 cap because it would be the LAST capped year.
I know its confusing and somewhat complex ( It often confuses me too).
This is why the "cap" experts get paid so well.

For 2006, not having a CBA extension kills us. All of the cuts we were planning to create cap room are going to have to happen simply to get us under the cap, and we won't be able to restructure any of our big contracts. Therefore, we won't be signing any marquee free agents unless they accept one-year, low-dollar contracts.

For 2007, no salary cap is good because we're one of the higher revenue teams with an owner who will open the checkbook if it will finally get the Dolphins over the hump.

Let me see if I finally understand this:
so the CBA is to determine a new 2006 cap amount and to implement caps on the 2007 -200? seasons and without a CBA there would be no 2007 cap and the current (from a previous CBA) 2006 cap amount would be in effect plus any cap hits that usually would effect 2007 are accelerated to 2006?

whew, that was a lot...

I like many of you just want to see this done already. I mean it when I say that the NFL is pretty much the only sport I follow. NBA is only exciting in the last 3 mins. MLB has a huge disparity between the teams that actually have a chance and the rest that are playing for the only reason to bring in the teams from that first group to other cities. Don't understand Hockey and never followed Soccer. I have not graduated from any college so that leaves out NCAA sports. NFL is basically it.

And if they screw this up, I will quite literally not watch or buy anything sports related. Believe me when I say this is not a hollow threat. My girlfriend says I live in a gift shop anyway.

dont look at it from the dolphins standpoint, look at it from the players standpoint, they are about to screw themselves bigtime unless they are willing to get less money and play for Philly, Arizona, and a few others. this process is in a stalemate of Upshaws 60% and threat of an uncapped year. That means to me that players are digging in. Bless the first one to flinch.
