Cap space available after free agency

True but, if you look at Jason's next column of cap space required it's at $1.8M, although projected as we did not have 51 players signed.

The "required cap" column is the bare minimum at which you can sign your rookies. Like Indy's "required cap" of $2.5M, but we all know that they aren't signing their first 5 draft picks for the rookie minimum. It will likely be a lot more than the minimums for many teams.

It will be more considering that $4.8M number was calculated when we had less than 51 players on our roster due to expiring contracts. As we add players and fill out 51 players under contract, that number should rise a bit..

The $4.8M is what is expected to be given by the NFL as a gross amount. $1.8M is the which, as you say, will change when we have the 51.

no, that figure includes 18m rollover from 2013, which does not rollover to 2015. we are near the 133m cap for 2014 and it is last year's rollover giving us the extra room for this year. in 2015 we wont have rollover and will need to be under the 140m estimated cap.

Any unused cap space this year can be rolled over to next year. Under the new CBA, teams are working within a 4 year time frame, when they must spend 90% of the total cap space in that 4 year time frame. There are no limitations or expiration's year to year.

I put up a thread giving a run down on 2015. We are at $130M to start, and will need to include the Pouncey option once the number is set.

The $4.8M is the minimum from the NFL. The required cap is what it will actually cost teams based n rookies replacing players already on the top 51.

The $4.8M "year one pool" number is the maximum. That number is determined by your drafts slots in every round. More picks = higher pool number.

The "cap space required" is simply the amount of cap required to sign rookies that that will have have a cap hit that places them in the top 51 salaries on a team, and is only relevant during the offseaon.

Right but lets go worst case scenario with $4.8 million just to be safe. If the Dolphins trade up, trade down and get more picks the cap hit will change but in all likelihood won't exceed $4.8 million, probably won't even get close to that much.

Yea unless we acquire more picks or somehow move into the top 10 in he 1st round, I doubt that number changes much, but I bet we get pretty close to hitting it. The rookie slotting doesn't allow for much flexibility.

My mistake. The $4.8M is the max but, the $1.8M is not the minimum.
