Cap space next year

I think that number can become much bigger if you are ridding of some players I think we are. So, Saban bashers need to chill and give the man some time to right this ship!

Keep in mind though that we have a lot of players entering the last year of their contracts.

Holliday
Traylor
Welker
Donnie Jones
McIntosh
Tillman
Spragan
Bowens

I am not saying we will re-sign them all, but the number right now is inflated. In fact 19 of our 53 man roster is unsigned following this season. wow.

I'd resign the first four (Traylor, Welker, Holliday, and Jones) and maybe Bowens. The rest need to go and having 19 unsigned is good because remember last year Saban only wanted people signed long enough to bridge the gap.

Remember that every player that remains unsigned and every player you cut has to be replaced.

And that an oversized roster turnover can lead to as much trouble as we're seeing this year.

Your absolute top targets IMO have to be Adalius Thomas and Leonard Davis. First and foremost is Adalius Thomas, IMO. Leonard Davis is a close second.

If you can't get Davis then you have to make a big play for Manuwai.

John Denney, Wes Welker, and Donnie Jones need to be re-signed. I'm sure that won't be hard. For Welker, we'll probably have to slap the $1 million RFA tender on him to make sure that he doesn't field any offers from elsewhere.

I'm not necessarily hot on the idea of cutting Jeno James unless you make sure you can get Leonard Davis. If you get Davis, then maybe. We may be forced to use L.J. Shelton or Vernon Carey at LT.

I think we can and should cut Bennie Anderson...and probably Marty Booker although I'd consider waiting until after the draft on that one and seeing if anyone gives us trade offers.

A guy I would like to see targeted on the DL is Terdell Sands of Oakland. He's a HUGE muthashutyomouth at 6'7" and 336 pounds. He gets a lot of batted balls because of his height and he's made plays in limited playing time. I'm pretty sure that this is Keith Traylor's final year in Miami as his contract runs out and I don't see a new one being offered, or accepted. He said before he got here that he was looking to play out a two year contract and then he's done. With Zgonina also leaving, and Holliday likely leaving, we need another body to add to the DL. Rodrique Wright fills out one spot when he gets back. Together between Dan Wilkinson, Fred Evans, Terdell Sands, and Rod Wright you would have to believe that our DT position is taken care of...and with Carter and Roth, plus Vickerson, our Closed End position is taken care of too, especially since Rod Wright can play that position as well as DT.

The bigger dilemma becomes replacing David Bowens. It may be time to start thinking about drafting Jason Taylor's successor and a lot of that could depend on where we land in the draft. If we land too high, then we have to be thinking about Calvin Johnson, Joe Thomas, or maybe Ted Ginn Jr.

But if we land too low, like the same range we were last year, we may be thin on OL ideas in the draft and could seriously consider looking toward the first round for Jason Taylor's successor. Gaines Adams, Quentin Moses, Lamarr Woodley, and Quentin Groves are names being batted around at that position.

Personally, I'd give heavy consideration around that area of the draft to a guy like Marcus Thomas or Alan Branch (assuming we kind of forget about Terdell Sands).

We could even be looking at a possible #1 corner.

Or maybe Sam Baker, or Levi Brown.

A lot will depend on the draft standing and that's very hard to predict because we're only 1 game behind about 9 teams that are all 2-5.

with the exception of welker, who on that list is not replacable!!!!!

Definitely resign Welker. McIntosh and Spragan should be resigned if the price is right. The rest should be let go.

why is everyone so high on Leanord Davis's jockstrap ? We already have one reject OL from arizona (LJ Shelton). If a LT is good enough to hit free agency he's not all that good to begin with, LETS DRAFT OUR OWN LT

Gaines Adams will be a top 5 pick. Bet on that!!! With more teams wanting to run 3-4 defenses...a guy like Adams will be in high demand. I say get him and let Taylor & Adams wreck shop for 2 years and then Bye Bye Jason:confused:
