I predict we'll be picking 4th.

The "Status Quo" Option: Don't move around too much, improve our team that is only a few holes away from a championship through existing draft picks.

1st: Joe Thomas OT- Our O-line is our biggest weakness and we get the best one on the draft with our 1st pick, our first franchise LT since Webb. His run blocking is fantastic, his pass blocking is good, but if he can improve on that he could be one of the greats.

2nd: HB Blades ILB- Zach will be be 34 next season, and no one knows how long he's got left. Blades lacks ideal measurables, but I think at 6-0, 240 lb. he's got enough size to be productive in our system. A tackling machine.

3rd: Brian Smith OLB- Look at our LB depth chart and count how many starting caliber players you think will still be here in 2 years. It starts and ends with Crowder right? Thats why we take 2 day one LBs. Good measurables at 6-4, 230 lb. He's a sack machine tallying up 24 of them through his first 3 years of college, and counting. We'll be lucky if he falls to the top of the 3rd IMO.

4th: Dustin Fry C- Hadnot is decent at C but is much better at G IMO. Fry has great size for Houck's system at 6-3, 320 lb. and has been opening some nice holes in Clemson's running attack. I think I like him more than most. Could be a starter with time.

5th: Joey Harrington QB- Everyone knows the story here. A 6th to the Lions becomes a 5th due to Joey's extended playing time.

6th: Le'Ron McClain FB- Give Ronnie a big 6-1, 257 lead blocker to blast those LBs. Not a bad pass catcher, but lacks great speed.

7th: Kenny Scott CB- Saban-Size at 6-2 185, but his speed is kind of average. Nice depth if nothing else.

I'm no expert, and I'm nowhere near CK, Boomer or KB21's league, but I think I know what I'm talking about more often than not in the draft, it's like my baby.

Mock 2: The "Firesale" Option will be up by the end of the day.

Do you have your 2008 and 09 mock drafts as well???

If you don't want to talk draft then don't come into the DRAFT FORUM. Jeez.

That seems like a good mock. The only thing I would want to change is the HB Blades pick. Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to have him there, but I'd also like to address the DB's earlier.

The "Firesale" Option: Pretty much everyone on the team sucks. We need to trade everyone we can get value for and get the youth movement rolling. (not my words)

Trades:

Mid 1st for Chambers, Low 1st for Taylor, Low 3rd for Thomas, High 4th for Harrington.

1st: Calvin Johnson WR: After trading Chambers we need a #1 receiver. CJ is all that and more. A freakish blend of size(6'5, 235) and speed(4.45) makes him one of the best WR prospects in years. Starter.

1st: Sam Baker LT:
OL is still a huge need and we get the best Junior T in the draft. Maybe smallish for Houck(6'5, 305), but a big time player nonetheless. His pass blocking is top notch, better than Joe Thomas' I'd say, and though his run blocking is not in Joe's league, it can be improved. A Pro Bowler if he plays to his talent level. Starter.

1st: LaMarr Woodley DE/OLB:
We use the pick we got from JT to get JT's successor. He's not incredibly tall at 6'2, but he's a rock-solid 270 lbs and has great athleticism. He can be a big time pass rusher but also has ability to make plays in open space and stop the run. Starter

2nd: Kyle Young C:
The best C in the Draft, Kyle Young is a Houck-sized C at 6'5 and 330 lbs. Lacks great athleticism but he's a road grader, and smart to boot. Steps in and starts as Hadnot moves to G.

3rd: Brian Smith OLB:
See 1st post.

3rd: Nate Harris ILB:
Pretty good size at 6'1 and 232. He's got great speed and is a sack machine, which I witnessed firsthand against my Canes. Zach's replacement, starter.

4th: Jonathan Wade CB:
A big(6'0, 195), speedy(4.45) Corner out of the SEC, Saban's favorite. Would probably challenge for a starting spot but ultimately end up as our nickel or dime. Great depth to have and could develop into a starter with time.

4th: Jordan Palmer QB:
Ideal size, 6'5, 235. Big arm, a bit of a gunslinger. Decent mobility in the pocket, and a great genes. We need a backup after dealing Harrington, and Jordan would push Cleo. Backup, could develop into a starter over time.

5th: Joey Harrington QB:
See 1st post.

6th: Le'Ron McClain FB:
See 1st post.

7th: Darnell Jenkins WR:
At 5-10, he's not the biggest and he doesn't have the measurable speed to go along with his smaller stature, but I can tell you as a Canes fan that all he does is go out, do his job and catch balls. We need depth with Chambers and possibly Booker gone, and Jenkins can step in and easily be the 5th or 6th guy.

We lost our 2nd rounder in the Culpepper deal. Unless I'm forgetting a trade that came after that, we don't have one anymore, right?

That was last years 2nd.

I like the firesale kind of, but I dont think capwise trading some of those players is possible. I also dont think getting rid of Chambers is smart, even if he is only a #2, he can be pretty good at that despite the season he is having. Him and Johnson could be a nice duo.

I dont know that anyone would give us 1st for Chambers (at best 2nd round) and doubt anyone is gonna give us a 4th for Harrington either... if the Lions couldnt get better than a 6th?(maybe 5th)

Taylor and Zach i think are correct...... but i dont even think its possible with the cap hits..

love the Calvin Johnson pick....& Woodley...would be nice to grab a center in Young
think we need to address the CB position earlier...

Nice job... if Calvin Johnson is there.. id like that. but Wilson
agree with 2nd and 3rd going with OLB

good job

The firesale option seems appealing to me, but I'd prefer getting rid of Culpepper instead of Harrington. Just based off what they've both done with the team this year. I'd try to unload McMike instead of Chambers. The biggest needs are OL and DB. Fix those, this team is good, or at least competitive.

I think CJ runs a 4.36 or something if i recall

I like the idea of 2 LBs but we need a S as well.
