Lots of work to be done by arizona to remain in the manning sweepstakes and try to be competitive.
Now that the 2012 salary cap has been set at $120.6 million, we’ve obtained the full list of the cap space, or surplus, that the teams have.

With less than 48 hours until all 32 franchises must be in compliance with the spending limit, plenty of teams have work to do.

And if the Arizona Cardinals hope to sign Peyton Manning, they’ll need to roll up their sleeves and create some cap space.

The Cardinals are $16.4 million over the cap, as adjusted to reflect $2 million in 2011 carryover and $1.333 million in downward adjustments.

Amazingly, the Cardinals could have carried over $7.04 million. They opted only to carry over $2 million.

If they’d carried over the full amount, the Cardinals would have had to clear only $11.4 million by Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET. More importantly, the Cardinals would have had an extra $5 million to pay Manning.

For the Cardinals, the challenge will be to clear $16.4 million and then enough beyond that to fit Peyton’s contract under the cap.

was just about to post this. looks like the cards wont be able to grab him. denver has a crap load of money to spend. so if its about the money denver will get manning. if its about to winning we should be the front runners. but if its all about the money denver can have him. but i dont think peyton is that type of player

After they get rid of Kolb it probably won't be too hard for them to get under the cap.

i know i dont get it. somebody in thier FO must have really messed up with the numbers

They dont get Manning, someone is going to get fired over that. What happens to that left over cap space? Does it go towards 2013?

I cant believe they only carried only 2 million over from last season

I got one word for you: Bidwill.

Not surprising at all. The only owners in the NFL that are bigger cheapskates are the Glazers and Mike Brown. And really, the Glazers at least have the excuse of being in major financial trouble, and Mike Brown has actually been spending money lately. Hrm.

i think arizona is out of it , just cant see them getting to the numbers and still be a quality team with or without peyton.

From what I've read even if they release Kolb they will only get rid of around 6 million this year from the cap if they choose to defer that amount to next years cap. This article also doesn't take into consideration that they tagged Calais Campbell which will add an additional 10.6 million if they don't sign a long term deal by thursday. Everyone says they will just cut Levi Brown, but this will leave them without a LT...Great selling point to Manning for sure!

Bottom line is Arizona has their work cut out for them to sign Manning and even IF they make it happen they will at that point have ZERO money to spend on an offensive line or additional pieces. I feel this is enough to take Arizona out of the race.

Geez, For someone like Kolb what must that feel like. You come into the organization in a strike year didn't get a full training camp and not even a year remove they try to replace you? Ofcourse if they don't get payton their going to slap you on the back and say hey no hard feelings it was just business? Damn!

Seriously! The guy only played 8 games in a cardinals uniform and he is already on his ass! I know this is Peyton Manning we are talking about, but you would think they would give Kolb his proper time to prove himself after all they gave up to get him. Remember Philly was all in on Kolb also! CRAZY STUFF!

Could you imagine them cutting Kolb and then striking out on Manning, that would be funny!

That would be hillarious! Even better would be for them to miss on Manning and then Kolb is so pissed he demands a trade and they're left with Skelton!

Apparently a lot of people have been high on Skelton, i was never a fan of Kolb.

How do you think Kolb AND Tebow feel? Both were the darlings of the league not too long ago, one with a media frenzy and the other with several teams trying to sign him in free agency.

-And Tebow REVIVED the Broncos and GAVE them a first round playoff WIN against a heavily favored team!

Cooooold blooded!
