after watching the game last night i have come to some very early conclusions on the players i was trying to watch speciffically. Here they are (I would appreciate it if anyone else would add players and opinions to this list as well):

Vernon: thought he looked decent playing 1st string except for 2 things, 1) when AJ got blown up by Urlacher (I think it was) it was because Vernon missed his block (on Alex Brown who imo is very solid) and AJ had to step up.....right into the blitz, and 2) in the run game I'm sure I saw him miss 1-2 blocks.

Stockar: thought he looked solid, much like Vernon but only better

Kay Jay: I love this guy and I'm really rooting for him but he didn't look that great last night (though none of our RB's did due to a lack of holes). He did have that kick *** stiff arm though on the 20 yd catch.

Spragen: thought he looked very good. When he was in he always seemed to be around the ball trying to make a play.

Crowder: saw him a couple times but nothing he did really stood out and made me go 'whoa'

Roth: motor that won't quit but seemed to have a lot of trouble getting off his blocks......it might just be me but it also seemed that he was getting double teamed quite a bit

Wright: looked good early but ran out of gas very quick and became a very, very weak link on the line

Mario Edwards: looked like garbage.

other notes:

I thought Gus did well and AJ not so much although Gus was also playing against 2nd team D.

our secondary looked weak.....there were quite a few deep throws that could have gone against us if the ball was placed a little better....pretty sure I saw Bua get beat badly on a deep one. Daniels impressed me however.

Ricky looked timid (again, none of our RB's looked too hot........in fact I think Minor looked like the best RB on our team)

Gilmore had a sweet grab

ALSO

didn't see Vickerson or Alabi......how did these 2 do?

please add opinions on any players to this post........I would appreciate some feedback on things that I failed to see.

I really didn't focus on any particular players, but rather looked to see how cohesive we played as a team. It's not that I am disappointed, but I hoped we would be further along than we are. I'm pretty sure our new systems are very complex, especially on defense, and it probably will be another 2-3 games before our guys feel comfortable enough to play good team football.

That said, I did notice a few areas about some players I would like to point out, and see improvement in, ... 1) Thompson and Lee catch the ball when it is a good throw to them. Thompson killed a good drive with his drop. 2) Gordon block when he is supposed to. I know he missed one, and there are probably more blocks he missed that created undo pressure on the QB. 3)Feeley needs to not freak out when the pocket collapses. We got lucky on a no-call for intentional grounding after Feeley panicked and threw the ball to an O-lineman which hit him in the back. Feeley needs to understand that he will never be a decent QB if he doesn't learn more poise in the pocket. Once the defense sees panic in his eyes and smell blood, they are going to eat him up!

Minus hitting the offensive lineman Feeley did exactly what he should of done on that play. I have seen Marino do it, I have seen Peyton Manning do it, I have seen the best quarterbacks in the league do that. When a screen is sniffed out the only thing you can try to do is get rid of the ball and make it not look like intentinal grounding

What I dont understand is this guy has been playing football his entire life. Is is that difficult to dump it off when the corner is blitzing? It seems to be a pattern with Feeley, when you blitz him he makes mistakes.

I understand that, but my point was meant to emphasize his need to work on poise and not to panic. Many times last year he panicked under pressure and turned the ball over. The good QB's like Manning and Brady doen't panic and usually unload the ball to the hot RB or receiver or throw it at their feet or throw it out of bounds when they are out of the pocket. Defenses know Feeley crumbles under pressure and will test him constantly until he proves he can handle it.

I know, I don't understand either. I wish Marino would give him lessons on pocket presence. If he could master that he would be twice the QB, IMO.

Well there weren't any plays during yesterday's game that showed Feeley panicking. The play you mentioned was a play where minus hitting the offensive lineman was the exact the thing he should of done in that situation

Thanks for the insight guys. Being on the wrong side of the Atlantic I have to make do with Internet radio. Its helpful to read the thoughts of folks that could actually watch the game.

Carey didnt do that bad, he had those one or 2 issues like you said but its a good learning experience for him.

Crowder looked good he made plays and he has good coverage skills.

Yeah the Running Backs didnt look so good, they wre average at best.

All the recievers did great(hell even Lee did decent) Thomson ****ed us on a key play. Boston did well.

Gus played very good, AJ did an average job.
