-- Five reasons why the Miami Dolphins were wise to acquire quarterback Joey Harrington in a trade from the Lions:
  • The uncertainty of when Daunte Culpepper, the projected starter, will recover from the severe knee injury he suffered with the Minnesota Vikings last year. There is reason to believe Harrington could end up opening the season as the starter.
  • The inexperience of the Dolphins' other quarterbacks, Brock Berlin and Cleo Lemon.
  • The reasonable chance that, with a change of scenery, Harrington could stage a career comeback and realize more of the potential that made him the No. 3 overall pick of the 2001 draft.
  • The chance that new Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey will find ways to squeeze more production from Harrington. Mularkey might have struggled as a head coach, but he's a good offensive coordinator, as he proved in Pittsburgh.
  • The successful environment that Nick Saban created when he became coach last year, building what, at the end of the '05 season, was one of the hottest teams in the league.

Awesome. I love reading kind words about the Dolphins. I hope Harrington does resurrect his career. My one worry is that if he does ever have to step in for Culpepper, what if he plays lights out and suddenly we have a quarterback contreversy (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) the likes of which no one has ever seen before. This could wind up working out very well or it could blow up.

If Harrington plays THAT good, I wouldn't mind the QB controversy that comes along with it.

Well I guess if we are the position of having both QBs playing very well, we would assume a good trading position which can only be beneficial to the long term success of the team.

Just look at Jake Plummer's improvement since he left the Cards for the mile high city. Lets hope Joey has the same sort of success.

If we end up having a QB controversy because we have 2 stub QB's...how can that be a problem? It's like saying, "Man! Whats should I do with this huge bonus check I got from work! I don't know what to buy."

Joey definitely has some upside potential still. I don't know that its any kind of guarantee that he'll ever reach that potential though.

I would have preferred to keep Gus as the #2 QB for '07 but that didn't work out so Joey is reasonable backup plan.

Let's all hope Daunte is the starting QB at Thanksgiving time but the Dolphins at Detroit would be an interesting game with Joey behind center.

Qb controversies are good. They net you high draft picks.

That's not really the same thing at all. It'd be great to have two stud QB's if they can both get along and there's not any issues, but typically with a QB controversy both believe they should start, then the press gets involved and takes side, so do the players. It can split up a locker room. It's not the part with the two stud QB's that's bad, it's the fall out from having two guys that think they should be the starter and then having the team split over it. It's detrimental to team chemistry.

100% agree.

Not kidding, I often hear: It really sucks making all this money, when you have to pay all this tax. Mmmmmmmmkay, then just hand that there over, and I'll gladly pay the tax.

  • But what about all those Bills fans that insist that he never amounted to anything and that Dolphins' fans will regret his signing, Mr. Carucci?:D
