What's crappinin' folks?!

I just got in from the practice field and I was looking through the posts to see if anyone had any info on today's practice...more out of interest in how today's work would be interpreted. I saw the blog link by Bedard from the PBP and I've got to honestly say that newspapers that hire a writer to cover the sport of football in South Florida should at "minimum" require that they have some idea as to what they are talking about. His referrences to this being the "most boring practice he's ever seen", just reminds me of Saturday when I attended Opening Day with my 9 year old daughter. She was whining about the heat and how she wanted to go because she thought there was supposed to be a football game going on...she said it was boring!

Now this is the type of comment I would expect from a 9 yr. old whose thought patterns dont go much further than her "Bratz" dolls or "Dora the Explorer", but a professional writer? Come on now! For Bedard to say that this practice was "boring" only gives testament to his lack of "true" football knowledge or ability to understand the importance of "every" aspect of the game! Obviously he can't grasp the importance of making sure your "Special Teams" is on point as you would the Defense or Offense.

But here's the hipocracy in all of this...Bedard would probably be one of the many writers looking to berate the entire coaching staff if we were continuously having punt returners killed due to missed blocks....Maybe one of these so called "ball less" drills (which was clearly a drill they were using to teach the blockers how to set up in formation for the return and blocking at full speed on the move) will be the reason that Ted Ginn breaks a 98 yarder....which then I'm sure Bedard would report with amazing zeal....the man obviously doesn't understand anything about the importance of "all" of the moving parts behind the "touchdown" scored...Ted Ginn ,Jr. can not go out onto the field by himself against 11 men and score touchdowns in this league....I guarantee that to be fact!

But enough about that ignorant writer that has "carte blanche" to report on the best NFL team in America (soon to be London), and if he thinks his job to be soo boring, give me those VIP Press credentials...I'd sell more papers than him anytime of day given equal access to the team....moron!

I'm writing all of these reports off of memory (no laptop) in the boiling sun for the real fans who can't be here...for free I might add! And the last thing that we want to hear when we log into the PBP is how "bored" you are Retard...oops...sorry...Bedard!!!...97% of us would "slap our mommas" to have that kind of exposure to the Miami Dolphins football team...This bum is getting paid to do it and has no idea of the opportunity he's given everyday!

Without further delay I will offer my observations for this morning's training camp...

No surpise again.....it was HOT!!!

The offense looked sluggish yesterday so I am sure the coaching staff wanted to give the guys a break in the heat (no pads) and work on some mental assignments since they worked like mules out there yesterday. The entire team appeared to be involved in Special Teams today....there were Punt Return drills on the "left" field and Kick Return drills on the right. The punt drill included the 4 personal blockers and the returner....it was a cool sight to see as I saw Mormino and an even bigger surprise...Big Soliai was the "middle" guy forming the wedge for Ginn!....what?!

Soliai was moving pretty good as well...I was thouroughly impressed with how well this "mountain of a man" moved in open space out there. Now I have no way of knowing if this is going to be a permanent thing, but this was definitely worth mentioning! Mormino rotated in as well with both of them getting about 5-6 reps at the return each....I seriously doubt that we will be putting two players that are of such importance to the team on returns, but if it was based on movement and ability I could see why they were there...that was a lot of beef moving up field for Ginn to cutback off of!

They did break off into some position drills and I couldn't help but notice how all of the WR's were catching the ball pretty solidly today....and yes that included Mr. Chambers!

It was nice to see D. Sutton back out there running, as he was on the ground during passing drills yesterday with what I thought was leg cramps, but I really couldn't tell....It was good to see him back to his old self today.

Just a thought...I am standing here looking into the VIP and there isn't a single sole in there, yet I'm also looking at the few fans in attendance and wondering what the harm would be in allowing them in out of this blistering heat? Just a thought, but hey, I still have business to take care of.....so back to it!

When they went to "Team" I was trying to pay a little closer attention to Jason Allen...I really need to know if this guy is going to be able to develop into something or anything for that matter...He seems a little more comfortable when he's in "press" coverage...probably because it allows him to utilize his superior strength on the WR. But when Ginn came to the line, he immediately backed off and appeared very cautious as he was making sure that the safety saw who he was covering...this dissapointed me a little,"Jam his *** Jason and see what he's got...the safety's got your back over the top!", is all I remember saying to myself. But Ginn ran a crossing route away from him and let him off of the hook....damn!

Shirdonya Mitchell took some of the reps at that same RCB position as well...he has very quick hands and feet...he seems to keep his body weight over his center of balance very well so he changes motion very fluidly...There were no major plays run his way, but I did notice how alert he appeared to be for any crossing routes coming back to him that he could jump...he may be one to watch as camp plays out.

John Beck took all of the reps at QB during team today...not sure why, but it was what it was. I think we might have gotten the steal of the draft as far as QB's are concerned...this guy has First Round caliber Football IQ...no joke!

I don't like to drink the Beck kool-aid to often, but I must be honest in saying that this kid is showing steady methodical improvement in training camp...he is very smart and has command of the huddle already...His voice inflection caused the defense to almost jump into his lap, after which he immediately reset the cadence and not one lineman moved...Those kinds of things keep a defense off balance and are a big help to a young QB.

I watched him drop back looking down the middle of the field and then snapped his head around, hitting many different WR's,TE's, and RB's on the left and right hashes play after play....5 yards, 10 yds., 7 yds., you get the picture...It was almost robotic, and he was going against a "live" defense....not on "air"! His comfort in the offense is really beginning to show more and more, he has excellent ball handling skills...Beck will be a "master of deception" as he has shown flashes of Peyton Manning type ball handling, where you're not quite sure where the ball actually is.

I'm not sure who #80 (most likely the new TE we picked up...Courtney Anderson I think) was but he caught a couple nice balls in traffic...This offense is building and Cameron appears to be allowing the QB to master the short to intermediate game first as I've rarely seen Beck "air it out" a whole lot as of yet...That's what impresses me most about John Beck...he's running this offense in a phone booth, against a very solid defensive team...He's making throws into traffic with "pinpoint" accuracy just a second before the defender can react.

Drop back...Hagan "complete" 20 yard "dig route" accross the middle of the field....drop back..."speed draw" to Cobbs 8-10 yard gain....drop back...."play action" to Cobbs, hits Cobbs in the flat for a 5 yard gain....drop back...."complete" to #80 on a crossing route for a gain of 10 yards....drop back...."pump fake right...turns and pump fakes left....then 360's around to the right again for the screen pass to the right flat to an awaiting Lorenzo Booker"....I would've loved to see the cameraman keep up with that play!

It was beautifully set up by the entire offense...There were 3 huge blockers right in the flat in front of Booker and #20 just snagged the ball right out of the air and immediately pressed up field forcing the defenders into his offensive help...Lorenzo Booker closes space between himself and a defender faster that anyone I've ever seen in a Dolphin Uni....He had two LB's coming up on him and it felt to me as if he was allowing them to do it....then "BAM" one cut left, a little "gas" and both were in his rear view mirror....I assume that the safety didn't think Booker could see him either....wrong answer, he suffered the same demise as the first two defenders! The play was "easily" a 30 yard gain no problem...he possibly could've scored....OUTSTANDING play from QB to O-LINE to RB!!!....That play and variations of it "will break our oppositions backs" this season...there's NO DOUBT IN MY MIND!!!

Well that's all I've got for today....I know it's not much since all that happened was special teams...right Bedard?! The only thing that was boring was your write-up!

Appreciating "everything" Dolphins (including special teams!)

I'm out!

Go Phins!

I think you're very much confusing a declaration of a "boring" practice with a declaration of a "useless" practice.

Bedard wasn't saying the practice was useless, he was saying it was boring. They're very different labels. I'm sure he very much appreciates that boring practices like these prevent fumbles or miscues down the road or lead to 98 yard touchdown returns, etc.

Thanks again Cash.. Dolphin fan eyes at camp are priceless and your writing style is outstanding.

Good stuff, thanks

Having Soliai, Mormino, and Juggernaught blocking for Ginn on returns sounds like a blast to watch, I hope we get to see it on gamedays.

Cams offense was great in San Diego, but I think in a few years it could even be better here (as long as RB and some other guys can step up and help fill the roles that LT and Gates played.)

It seems like Cam has a lot more freedom to create as many match up problems for the defense now that he is head coach.

Go Phins!

On the one hand I want to say thanks for taking the time to give us a report. On the other hand, referring back to your second paragraph; has your daughter made you aware that there is a Bratz movie coming out? I can assure you that mine has. Every time the advertisement has come on TV.

I also appreciate the camp report. But it should be noted that Shirdonya Mitchell did apparently have one big play go his way and that was the 45-50 yard TD bomb from Beck to Ginn where he beat Tuff Harris and Shirdonya Mitchell. The play has been confirmed by both Greg Bedard and Jeff Darlington.

cashman - excellent update. get your resume ready cause the Miami papers will be knocking your door down soon enough!! Looking forward to your next update.

Hey Cashman, tell Bedard you are coming after his J-O-B. For us out-of-state folks, do the Phins ever practice in their bubble dome to get out of the heat, or is this dome just for when it rains? The Denver Donkeys have a similar dome here but it is mainly for dealing with the snow. They don't even provides bleachers for the fans at Donkey camp, and you are not allowed to bring lawn chairs, or any food with you. I guess they want the fans to stand the whole time. No wonder the donkeys suck. They are thinking Cutler is the 2nd coming of John Elway...what a joke!!!

yeah i was gonna ask if you saw the big play to ginn... but great report, and im so glad beck is improving and impressed today...

Let them know that they are confused about the 2nd coming because we have him in Beck.:kick:

I don't think they use the bubble for heat, they view the heat of a Miami training camp to be an asset...especially during September home games when northern teams tend to melt in the fourth quarter.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have no idea how much I appreciate your hard work and time spent for my enjoyment, being an "out-of-towner".

Cash---
Another brilliant write up. I can't thank you enough for the time and effort.

One question though -- Was Beck and the offense taking on the 3rd string defense as Retard - Errrrrr - Bedard said?

I think the Miami heat and humidity if one of our best assets CK. We always seemed to get off to great starts in September/October and I think hot weather gave us an edge, especially over the rest of the AFC East. But then we would head into December and fall apart in the cold. The last few years we have gotten off to lousy starts and then played well in December, but we still come up short of the playoffs. Hopefully Cam will use the heat to our advantage.....more deep throws to tire out the opposing defense, and then pound the ball to Ronnie. :) I think if Ginn can give us a little better satarting field advantage this will be huge for us. I know watching kick/punt returns might seem a little dry to a lot of reporters but we got to get to the fundamentals and special teams down first.
