Jimmy Williams has been waived by the Falcons. He was the 37th pk in the 2006 draft and many had him as high as a top 15 pk. He is a cornerback, a position of great need for the Dolphins. I believe his salary is $440k and will not cost us anything if he doesn't make the 53-man roster. Does anyone know anything else about him?

Damn he got waived already? Didn't they just draft him last year? I think he's worth the risk and i think we get 1st crack at the waiver wire too. I think he's often injured in the same way that Will Poole was though...

He's terrible. He's too slow for CB and he's too weak for safety. He has terrible work ethic.

I stay away from Virginia Tech Cornerbacks. There's a reason that a secondary that is weaker than ours ( Yeah, scary thought, eh? ) is waiving this guy

Well, he showed up overweight, about 20 lbs according to the report. Had been demoted to 3rd string. Doesn't "sound" promising. But, taking a look at him would not hurt at all. The guy, you would hope, would have a chip on his should after being such a promising player and getting his outright release. IF he was brought in and our FO signed him, I would not be too upset. I have been impressed with the reports of the atmosphere and attitude of our OTA's. This staff seems to get it and make pretty good decisions.

well if anyone can whip him into shape its the Tuna.
bring him in for some competition
couldn't hurt

It's not worth the risk. He's lazy, he's got a horrible work ethic, and he doesn't have a clue what it takes to play in the NFL.

hold on, you want to take a chance on a DB that was cut by ATLANTA who reported to camp at about 240 lbs? the Falcons need CB help just about as much as we do and they didn't feel like it was a good idea keeping him around. i wouldn't touch the guy with a ten-foot pole

I talked to an agent who interview him and the agent told me that the guy had serious mental issues. He said that Williams thought of himself as some kind of football god coming out of college. This was before the draft and after the draft when i talked to him he said he was shocked that a team took him in the 1st round.

sporano has stated they discussed picking up a cb and decided they didn't need to with the way some of the younger guys played in camp(billingsly and babers). then i think we have a safety or 2 that can play corner if needed. i would love to see a guy come in and start next to will allen but as long as our guys get and stay healthy we should be alright.

No matter what our staff says behind Allen we really dont have an impressive array of corners so not sure why looking at an available guy would be so dreadful. We now have one corner that should even be a starter in the NFL all the rest are suspect.
