Guy was released today from the Panthers in a surprise move, now they only have rookies and almost completely dismantled their secondary...in any event, with the possibility of X Howard missing some time with his knee, Byron not playing as we had hoped, and not much depth after that except for Culliver who is coming back from major knee injury...I think we should seriously consider him with a short term prove it deal...he is 6'00' 195lbs so not a small guy but not a monster either....and although he looked pretty bad out there, it was against arguably the best receiver in julio jones...apparently jones would run a deep route, go out and then his replacement would run another deep route to get him tired, then julio would come back in and theyd target him for being tired...imagine if that was tony lippett or b maxwell? cant say they woulda done much better if at all

Panthers waived CB Bene Benewikere

This is the fallout from Benwikere being burnt to a crisp by Julio Jones last week. Jones hung a 12-300-1 line on the Panthers, and Pro Football Focus charged Benwikere with 8-228-1 of it. It's a surprising move, as it was just one bad game, but GM Dave Gettleman has moved on to wanting big, tall corners on the outside. Benwikere was solid Weeks 1-3 and had strong 2014 and 2015 seasons. More than one team will likely put in a waiver claim on Benwikere.

So just cause Julio murdered him? Sounds like he was doing fine before that. I would hope we put in a claim.

The cornerback-needy Panthers have parted ways with starter Bene' Benwikere.

In a stunning move reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Friday, the Panthers leave themselves with a cornerback depth chart almost entirely devoid of experience. Rookie James Bradberry, who was supposed to shadow Julio Jones last weekend before exiting the game early with a toe injury, now seems to be the unquestioned leader at the position.

Third-round pick Daryl Worley also will likely see an increased role in the wake of Friday's decision. According to the Charlotte Observer, a third rookie corner, Zack Sanchez, was elevated from the practice squad. Sanchez's agent, Ken Sarnoff, confirmed the move on Twitter.

The troubling optics of Jones' 300-yard game against the Panthers last weekend apparently provided enough motivation for a complete shakeup. It would not have been surprising to see the 25-year-old bumped down a notch anyway in the wake of last week's disaster, though Carolina seems more content moving on entirely. Coach Ron Rivera said earlier in the week that Benwikere was in an open competition for his spot.

Interestingly enough, Benwikere admitted to having some conditioning issues Sunday. He said that the Falcons would take Jones out of the game and ask whichever receiver replaced him to run a deep route against Benwikere. Then, they would put Jones back in and run the same thing, allowing the All-Pro receiver to get a step on the tired cornerback.

"I kind of put that on film," Benwikere told the Observer. "So obviously they're going to come out, they're going to run a deep ball and then they're going to send another receiver in to run another deep ball. And then they're going to have their star in and throw to their star."

I liked both Sanchez and Worley in the draft a lot, but Worley as a FS and Sanchez as a slot corner. Ballsy move from the Panthers, but at least you have to say they're making players accountable for bad errors/games with the ultimate price. Something a team closer to our hearts should consider. Haven't seen enough of Benikwere to know if he's worth a look or not.

If only that had been Mr Miko Grimes :(

Interesting.

So they blame a corner for Julio's dominance. Maybe Carolina should've swallowed that pride and paid Norman.

That team is TOAST and I live every minute of it.

Way O/T but I see that you are a Clemson guy. What do you think of Wayne Gallman as a prospect for us next year?

If he were to fall to Miami in the waiver claim...who would you cut? Maxwell makes the most sense but I see Tannenbaum blocking that given he traded for him.
