It's one of the other tidbits in this article.

Cornerback Michael Lehan also will be signing with the Dolphins after receiving a tryout last weekend, a source said. Lehan, 26, has played in 32 games the past three seasons for Cleveland.

Also....

A source said the Dolphins were unlikely to sign rookie quarterback Marcus Vick, who is expected to instead pursue opportunities in the Canadian Football League. There also is a 50-50 chance the Dolphins will attempt to sign tight end Kyle Turley, a converted tackle who also participated in the minicamp.

Just how many defensive backs do we have and are there enough numbers for them? And I do hope we sign Turley, he'd make a great blocking TE for sets where six linemen are down.

If my count is correct this will give us 8 corners, Lehan, Daniels, Poole, Goodman, W. Allen, Mitchell, Jackson, and Thomas AND 8 safeties, Tillman, Bell, J. Allen, Hill, Cooper, Shabazz, LeJune, and Hunt, with one of each presently playing in NFLE.

Then the answer is no, given that offensive and defensive backs share the same numbers. Take one out of the picture for Czonka's retired number.

This what competition is all about... The best players will be on the 53 man roster...

It seems we only care about the secondary. I am confused

It may seem that way but we also have 15 Olinemen, eight of whom have started in the NFL.

We have invested five draft picks in DT/DE the past two years, signed a priority UDFA and have four former NFL starters still on the roster. This is over and above Jason Taylor's "over" DE position.

We have twelve WR's under contract.

We have four guys competing to back up Ronnie Brown.

We have three possibilities for third string QB.

We have more DB's who have played in the NFL than other spots but we will have a lot of great competition across the board come camp time.

yeah even though we signed DC and are pursuing Harrington
we signed Shelton, drafted a guard and resigned some players but we dont care about the oline
we drafted 2DT and have a nice seven man front including Hodge but we dont care about them
and we brought in some rb'S

CMON MAN....THE MORE THE MERRIER...maybe this guy is better than a guy we already have

We'll end up cutting many of those extra players in the end, but for now, why not ? The more people competing for spots, the better. Means they will be hungry and earn the spots than be just given the roster spot. Funny thing will be how they do the numbers in training camp. Will the double up on some numbers, start using the really low numbers or maybe use fractions ? Just kidding, but it would look very funny! "Hey, who's number 42.5 ?"

Not to step on your joke which made me chuckle, in fact it is common to have two guys wear the same number. Usually its one offensive and one defensive player. Since they often dress in "opposite" colors (offense in white, defense in teal for example) it doesn't matter.

Also with the extra guys, I am a lot happier at the thought that if/when an injury happens the spot is backed up by someone who likely has been through a whole off-season and camp.

I love their 50-50 comment about Turley. Thanks for the update.

Yes yes, but it seems we've tried to address DBs first to rebuild our defense
