Besides using some of their 30 allotted non-local draft visits on offensive linemen, the Dolphins booked speedy Rice cornerback Phillip Gaines (possible third-rounder) to come to Davie to meet with team officials. Gaines visited this past week, according to a source
Here was CBS' assessment of Gaines: "He has the size, length and aggressive nature to match up well against receivers at the line, to press. Shows footwork and redirection skills. Inexperienced in the backpedal. Holds the Rice record for most career passes defended (42). Just needs to come down with more interceptions."

I see some places have him as high as 3rd round to undrafted

Analysis
Strengths
Nice length. Can be deployed in zone coverage. Plays the pocket. Good production on the ball -- 35 passes defended the last two seasons. Tough and competitive. Is hardworking and well respected by coaches and teammates.
Weaknesses
Durability is a concern (has been dinged up). Underdeveloped and underpowered. Not equipped to handle man-to-man responsibility. Poor run supporter and tackler. Does not project as a core special-teams player. Tweener traits.

Is it me or does this guy look like he really has a small lower body? Skinny legs might give Davis a run for his money if drafted!

I thought that he moved like an athlete. I was actually impressed. We might take another CB for depth. He comes from Rice which is not a renowned football school, so to be earmarked for the 3rd round, he's tall and probably pretty good.

Seems like a fit. More competition is needed here on the roster.

Seems drafting CB's is the norm for the Dolphins the 6 drafts.. Yet another one which is needed.....sad.

How is it sad? Every team in the league drafts CB's every year. You can never have too many good corners seeing that sometimes you have as many as four on the field at once, and with how the league has turned pass happy.

It's sad because every time we draft one they're garbage... I don't mind drafting CB's just get it right for once...Get it?

Every team drafts a lot of corners because they are hard to find and you need a lot of them. Miami is no different than any other team in the league. Take a look at New England's history drafting cornerbacks for example. Got it?

We did get it right, remember?

Smith, when he wanted to be, and Davis were pretty good.
