CB Richard Marshall sign 3 year deal with Miami

I think the Fins are playing hard ball with both Eric Winston and Matt Flynn right now and they have a chance at coming out from either or both looking smart for doing it.

Don't like it at all, not in the salary cap era. We overpaid. Richard Marshall is a dedicated hard trying and hard hitting klutz who can be brutally exposed. I remember last season I had a first half bet on the Steelers at Arizona and Mike Wallace flashed past Marshall for a 90 or 95 yard touchdown that all but sealed my bet. Marshall looked ridiculous flailing his arms as Wallace toyed with him on the way to the end zone.

Marshall would be excellent return as a throw-in on a trade, or as someone you groom after drafting him fairly late. Jeff Ireland made the classic gaffe of overreacting to a good season, or good partial season, in the middle of the players' career and surrendering big money. I just don't think Ireland has any concept of value. In the past two days he gave away a player capable of dominating the Pro Bowl and signed a competent defensive back who will never seriously be mentioned in connection with the Pro Bowl.

At some point you have to ignore positional needs and step back to ask yourself how good is your roster, is the talent level up or down based on what you just did?

The one time Ireland got it right he happened to stumble upon the correct approach, scooping up a freakish talent who was considered ultra blue chip all his life only to become laughably scrutinized and undervalued by the public, media and other teams -- Reggie Bush. In this case he fell victim to the worst approach, deciding a moderate player fit his little needs at the time and is somehow worth $16 million. Even if it pans out this time it will never work in the long run. The Richard Marshalls of the world guarantee a mediocre roster and won-loss record.

Besides, the Cardinals seem to have a nice defensive scheme that frequently makes defensive backs appear better than they are.

If it means Jimmy Wilson is off the roster and out of the league, closer to where he belongs, my opinion changes.

It depends on where he plays to me. If he's playing safety, I think this could be a really good move. Plus, with Will Allen gone, I think Jimmy Wilson's spot could be safe.

If they try and make him a corner I agree with you. If they put him at Free Safety as I suspect, I disagree.

He needs to wear #19 so our BMarsh jerseys aren't worthless :chuckle:

Fair Points, If he ends up our starting FS and becomes the ballhawk we have been looking for the contract is a fair contract.

Whatever man this is Finheaven and the start sheet guru's gave declared him Ronnie Lott!

Very happy with this. I was just complaining about not looking for secondary help yesterday. Touche Dolphins! :)

I just got this off the cardinals board. fan states: "Exactly. AJ Jefferson is GARBAGE. Did everyone magically forget how we started out with him?

When the DC calls the guy his Defensive MVP you don't let him walk over $6M guaranteed over 3 years."

so the cardinal dc gives marshall credit for being the defensive mvp of the team last year. sounds pretty good to me.....

He called him the MVP for having the ability to make the move from CB to FS when Kerry Rhodes got hurt.

He was very effective as a FS and I expect the Dolphins to use him in that capacity.

This guy was on my wish list. I'm really surprised that we got him. If they leave Jimmy Wilson at nickel and let Marshall play FS, it might just pan out. He has quite a few interceptions over his career.

I am a little dissappointed in this...2013 draft has alot of good CB's its a very deep position.

Marshall has always got burned by speed guys even in Carolina...I am a little intrigued by him playing FS as some have speculated...This move will create cap space if he plays FS with Bell being cut.
