Sean Smith's size (6-foot-3), speed (mid- 4.4's) and athleticism (good hips) has many scouts labeling him the cornerback in this draft with the most upside.
Water gun to my head and told to predict who the Miami Dolphins will select with the No. 25 pick, I'd name this underdeveloped Utah junior because Bill Parcells and the Tuna Helpers have gone out of their way to make it SEEM as if they don't REALLY like him that much.
But I know for a fact the Dolphins have talked to Smith personally at least three times, and will watch him workout for a third time when he's brought to the Davie facility for his second visit to the Dolphins' lair in the coming days.

IDK if anyone wants to watch it, but if you're into watching ProDay workouts, the video at the bottom shows his cuts and agility.

I'd love it if the Dolphins took him. I'm not ready to project it just because I'm not sure I like this regime's history of taking CBs high...but if they did take him, I'd be very happy.

I'm a little leery of drafting a big athletic db that played saftey and CB in college. I also think the best way to improve our secondary is to improve our pass rush. It's easier for pass rushers to transition to the NFL than db as a general rule. It also seems that their is much more talent at olb than db at the top of the draft which makes it more likely to have a quality pass rush drop to us than a quality db. Smith is projected by most as a second rounder but may go in the 1st due to a lack of talent in the first couple of rounds with the cb position.

i think hes there at 44

if cb's go early in the draft, then id say to pull the trigger on him at 25

but if, as expected, wr's start to get taken, then take nicks or britt (whichever is left over) at 25

much like the jake long pick, sean smith has that "versatility insurrance". What i mean is Jake long was considered a safe pick because he had a nice career in NCAA and there were plan Bs and Cs if he didn't pan out at LT.

Worst comes to worst, if Sean smith doesn't pan out at corner he can do an Antrel rolle-esque transformation and be that rangy FS we badly need

That's what we thought about jason allen.

idk isn't he more of a project guy like Jason Allen

Didn't Gibril Wilson just sign a 5 year deal????????

I'd rather Davis slide to us, and, or Kevin Barnes in the 3rd.

I could be wrong here but I only see two consenses round 1 cb's several others may sneek into round 1. Last year 5 cb's were off the board at #25. The laws of supply and demand tell you that cb's early in the draft will be over valued. More cb's have middle round grades suggesting that the value will be better in the middle rounds.
Also if you look at last year, we had number needs but DE was not a major one. We drafted two DEs in the 1st 3 rounds because those were the players that fell to us. I don't think we have to draft a cb in the early rounds. We needed wr depth last year but didn't take one in the entire draft. Rb wasn't exactly a need but we drafted two. I think the last thing Parcells and CO will consider when drafting a player is the positional needs of the team.

i saw him as a safety, and still do. He has no business at corner but that's just my opinion

unfortunately he doesnt have the brain for safety so CB is his only spot, he doesnt have great hips either, so. either way were screwed with him, but hes not a safety, not even close.

My criticisms of Allen at CB wouldn't really center on his hips right now, has more to do with his head. He's too prone to getting faked out, isn't tracking the ball in the air real well, doesn't trust in his technique enough, and has a tendency to peek into the backfield when as a CB that is the last thing he should do.

Allen was being projected as a safety before the draft even before his injury. Smith is being projected a CB. People need to stop making the comparison to Allen. Could they end up similar? yes. But just cause something could happen doesn't mean it will. Charles Rodgers and Mike Williams were HUGE busts, but does that mean that the Lions should not have drafted Calvin Johnson?

I know the staff loves him, Tod Bowles had a private dinner with Smith when they went to the Utah pro day.
