after looking at first round, possible picks..... it seems like all the true solid CB's are taken, the ones that seem to be playmakers and constant... its a deep class but it seems like most the main ones gonna fly throughout the first round... i'd love to find away to sneak into it for Cromartie or Mckelvin.... otherwise Cason may be around for our second round pick.... but i not sure on any other CB's really... your thoughts?

Aqib Talib is dropping due to the combine revelations about his positive reefer tests at KU. On a talent basis, he goes in the teens; character questions could leave him on the board at #32.

I've seen several mock drafts that have us taking Iowa CB Charles Godfrey with either our late second or our third round pick.

Ill say it again and sorry if you guys are tired of hearing these 3 names but these are the 2 of the top 6 corners IMO .
Antwaun Molden Eastern Kentucky You guys should check out his combine stats if you havent before. This kid is athletic and is a great cover corner.
Charles Godfrey Iowa This kids stock has been rising for a month now and might be a late 1st round pick but maybe he slides to 57. He is a shutdown corner as well.
As a senior he had 5 INT's 65 tackles 9 pass deflections His main pass coverage assignment caught a total of 15 passes and 117 yds with no TD's this past year. If Im not mistaken he was covering Devin Thomas, James Hardy, Dorien Bryant, Paul Hubbard, etc. He is a great player and attended Iowa as a Safety and then converted to CB so in all reality we have a great CB who also has Safety experience
Orlando Scandrick Boise State If he last to #195 we ahve to take him. He could def be a good pro coverage CB

Here's a rundown of stats and numbers I compiled regarding the corners in this draft -

And to the person who said Talib should be drafted in the teens, no he shouldn't. He sucks and I pray to god we don't take him. He will be a bigtime bust. I hate his game.

Receivers caught more than 50% of the passes thrown Talib's way and he got burned way too often. Other corners in this draft wouldn't have gotten burned like he did against the same inferior receivers he got burned against.

The more I think about it I just dont see us going CB early if at all. We will be taking a QB most likely and LBs. Look for Sunday picks to go towards more front 7 and OL, with maybe a WR in the mix and probably a CB there in the mix too.

Well we just traded for a LB today who can start. So along with Ayodele we have Crowder, Torbor, Anderson, Porter, Moses etc ect at LB. How many linebackers do you need?

Pass on Talib, to me he's one of the most overrated players in this draft. He's going to have to go to Tampa like system to be successful. Doesn't play very fast, is easily deceived by the QB/WR, isn't very intelligent and if you look at the numbers teams had a lot of success throwing at him. The Orange bowl was the perfect example of what you'd get with Talib. On one play he guesses correctly, jumps in front of the WR and returns the INT for a TD. Very next play, VT goes right back at him, he again tries to jump in front of the WR but this time gives up a 60+ yard bomb. Add in the character issues and he's not on my day 1 draft board.

very deep CB class after McKelvin and DRC.

You've got Mike Jenkins, Aquib Talib, Brandon Flowers, Justin King, Tracy Porter, Charles Godfrey, Trayvon Branch, Patrick Lee,Orlando Scandrick,Antwaun Molden, Jack Ikegwuonu(injured), Terrell Thomas,Chevis Jackson,Trae Williams, Jack Williams, and Terrence Wheatley as guys who can make significant impacts. Then there are guys like Jonathan Zenon, DeJuan Tribble,Darnell Terrell, Zach Bowman, and Dwight Lowery all have good chances of making teams.

Corner is a much bigger need than LB at the moment. Unless you enjoy watching Travis freaking Daniels get burned all year at corner against big receivers. Or if you enjoy watching other teams get easy first down passes on that side of the field.

Cason is the guy we need to stop those easy gains by opposing offenses. A LB won't help that at all. We have plenty of LB's now and no good corners with the exception of Will Allen.

And We don't need to pick Henne of Flacco at 32. If we do I will be disappointed..

Travis Daniels is one of a handfull of players currently on the team that I cant stand. Im not so sure he makes the team. If we draft a corner he is a goner. He is only 4th in line right now so I dont see it as a big deal. We could certainly use a corner, I just think Bill is going to take a couple OLmen, stockpile his front 7, and take a QB and possibly a WR. I see him doing those 4 things over taking a corner, but thats just MHO.

Yea we do have alot of LBs. But, how many of those will either be gone in 1-2 more seasons(Crowder), or are basically depth guys who have experience playing in a 3-4. I think Bill will be drafting guys he wants to start and be the main guys in 2-3 years, especially at LB.

WVDolphan, with all due respect I just don't see us not picking a corner in the first 3 rounds when first of all, we have a glaring need there. And secondly, because it is a very good and very deep year for corner.

If we get a 2nd and 4th for Taylor later today at the draft, I will bet good money we will pick a corner at pick 64 or sooner.

Smart GM's make picks at the right time. And this is a good year for corner and a very big need area for us. In my opinion it is the #1 need on the D. We literally suck hard at the opposite end of Will Allen.

Moreover, we did pick up good pieces for the run D in Jason Ferguson at nose, Adoyele (who is primarily a run stopper- he is not a good coverage LB but he is a good run stopper for sure), and Torbor and Starks etc for the run D.. These are all run-stop guys primarily.

As a matter of fact, my guess is we pick one corner in the top 3 rounds and another later on. At least 2.

Now I am not saying we won't make a pick or two for the front 7, but be rest assured we will be picking for the corner spot.

If we get two picks for JT, then a corner is much more likely IMHO. I agree with you there.

Also dont forget alot of these recent acquisitions on the front 7 are more or less stop gap starters who ideally would be depth on a more talented D. Bill had to grab up some guys who had experience playing in a 3-4. I like Ferguson ALOT, but how long will he be able to play?

Starks is the one guy who was acquired that I see as a player they want as a long term starter on our front 7. So thats why I think we will still draft alot of players on the front 7 over the next couple of drafts. I think 5 of our 7 starters on the front 7 in 2-3 seasons still arent on our roster. I think Bill will look for these players in the next two drafts. Pace wouldve been one of them had we been able to sign him.

Yeah but remember, this is not a one year plan. I think they see corner as a bigger need as corners take longer to develop. So take the corner now and let him develop this year since we won't be winning any division titles in the near future anyway.

Front 7 guys can be put in quicker after you draft them. So my thinking is they have time to fix the front 7 in future years (in free agency and drafts) and we are okay there for next season with the signings we've added..

Now though, we should get that corner if a real good one like Cason falls to us at 32.

Will Allen is getting older (he'll be 30 when the season starts) and the other side sucks. We need some good young prospects FAST at the cornerback position for the future. Because it takes time for these corner guys to develop..... So take em now in a deep corner draft and let them develop so they will be ready for primetime when we are contenders in 2, 3 or 4 years.
