Don't know if this was mentioned before. But I would love for us to get trumaine Johnson and leon hall for cb's.I think they would be a good fit for us.

This is one area where I feel Miami will look to the draft. It's a good year for corners and I expect the Dolphins to capitalize on that. Only so much money is out there in free agency and good corners typically go for lots of money on the open market.

We need a Marcus Peters type "hit" in this draft so so bad. We need a Landry type pick at corner. Starts day one and impresses throughout camp. Steady progression, consistent play. Please!?

We need some veteran presence until we can get rookies up to speed. I can see starting 1 rookie, but more than one and we're asking for trouble.

Our big needs pre-FA are:

ILB, OLB, FS, BCB x 2, OG. This looks to be a fantastic draft for all those positions bar maybe FS (and even then there are some good players).

I'd like to see us fix guard in FA and get the Browns MLB, plus maybe one boundary corner if our cap can allow it. But if we don't or can't splash in FA, this is a great year to be filling those needs.

First things first we need to address the LG and the RG and possible the RT position. we need to fix the O-line first in FA if we can. then in the draft we need to draft a LB in the first and CB in the second. my hope is that we can turn this around quickly. i want us to be great again and a destination spot for FA to come in and the players we DRAFT want to stay here. example: Miller and Vernon. Miller im okay with letting him test FA but we need to sign Vernon or slap the franchise tag on him.

Cornerbacks that makse sense for the Dolphins
2 days ago
Remember the days of Sam Madison, Patrick Surtain, Sammy Knight and Brock Marion. The Miami Dolphins had their entire secondary as pro ball players. Add in the element of Jason Taylor rushing the edge, this secondary didn’t have to contain their responsibly that long. The truth is, the best secondary is the one that plays for the shortest amount of time.

This past season, the Dolphins secondary was a mess. There isn’t one cornerback that should sense that they are secure, as a new coach and regimen come into town. Reviewing the current depth chart, there could only be two players on this list that remain when Organized Team Activities start this spring; Tony Lippett and Bobby McCain. The primary reason these two are on the list, as they were draft picks from last year that have shown progress.

Brent Grimes
Brice McCain
Jamar Taylor

Most likely all gone.

The Dolphins new General Manager, Chris Grier, was the head of scouting in his previous role, so he will ensure that both Bobby and Lippett are on the team come training camp. Furthermore, the Dolphins would be wise to look at the drat to secure a young promising prospect, kinda what they thought they did when the Dolphins drafted Will Davis and Jamar Taylor. Oh, wasted draft picks. That’s a story for another day.
The focus here is who is available in Free Agency that the Dolphins might want to target? Josh Norman is the cream of the crop and most likely will be franchised by the Carolina Panther, but let’s take a closer look to see who the Dolphins should target:

Trumaine Johnson – CB:

TJ is my primary focus this offseason. The Rams have both their starting cornerback hitting the free agent pool. Johnson is the best of the group and will demand a healthy contract. Basically, Johnson deserves Grimes cap space, and truth be told, I would give it to him. Johnson is a beast of corner that can play straight up bump and run and plays well in the zone. TJ understands game recognition based on his 7 INTs this year. The Dolphins haven’t seen that type of production since Surtain.

Leon Hall – CB

Vance Joseph is our new defensive coordinator, and based on the reports out there he is a player’s type of coach. Joseph will look to bring in some veteran leadership to this young secondary and Hall fits that mold. Hall is a former first round pick that has shadowed the alpha WR during his tenure with the Bengals. Depending on how things play out, Hall could see the boundary or play inside nickel, regardless, Hall makes sense as an ideal landing spot for the Dolphins secondary.

Brandon Boykin – CB

Boykin was traded this past year from Philly to Pit for a 5th I don’t see the Steeler re-signing him. If Boykins hits the market, he is your everyday nickel cornerback. His shadowing and hip movement is an ideal pairing in nickel and dime packages. Plus his speed on the spread formation allows him to play the blitz perfectly.

Players the Dolphins should stay away from:

I can understand and appreciate the concern for the selected targets that I have presented, and the understanding is that you don’t build a team via free agency. However, last year Todd Bowles, built his secondary via free agency and that resulted in great success. Who wouldn’t want Revis, Crommartie and Skyles?

Securing Johnson, Hall And Boykins, allows the Dolphins to line up against any opposing team and provide great results. Add in the element of entertaining new young talent via the draft to learn from these veterans, you can now start thinking… or at least daydreaming about the golden days of Sammy, Patrick and Brock.

Good read from a friend over at Phinzone who agrees. He did play DB in college but, not at a big school.

Im really looking at Janoris Jenkins. He's a great #2, and I think he's going to command a 5 million a year salary. Very good for a starting CB. You keep Bobby McCain in the slot, let him actually excel there.

I really like Nigel Bradham as long as we're talking starters we can bring in to delay our time in finding a stud in the draft.

Tru, Hall, Bobby, rookie, and Lippett.

William Jackson III, Eric Murray, or Kevin Peterson would be good developmental CBs in the draft that can come in and compete for and maybe even win a starting spot.

I like the fix the oline first mentality. At least one very good guard and a good backup at tackle would make me feel better. Turner or Thomas can man one spot, but not both. Thomas may be good to keep as a deep backup as he can play a few spots. Glad Fox is gone.

At corner, I'm still intrigued by Lippett esp with his size. If Grimes holds up , one solid pick at corner would be nice to go along with our other up and comers.

as of right now you'd be better off putting a traffic cone in place at CB. If Grimes takes a big paycut, I would keep him as a #2 CB. I would also keep Lippett and Bobby as backup corners or 3rd and long. But we need a true #1, and I would absolutely go strong for Josh Norman if hes available. OR draft a top CB

I may be in the minority but I think Grimes comes back and we draft someone to take the 1 spot in due time.

Osemelie or whatever his name is from Baltimore should be the Dolphins #1 free agent priority.

The CB class is great in this years' draft - I'd be ecstatic if the Dolphins got Ramsey or Hargreaves. Alexander may be a reach (probably better to go linebacker there) but it'd be a good consolation prize as well.

I think Grimes said they weren't open to restructure / pay cut

He makes like 9-10 million. I say cut him and sign 2 at least. I'm fine with cutting Taylor and McCain (unless he only plays in the slot, in which case he doesn't make a TON) if cutting McCain need to look for maybe 3 guys.

Someone suggested Jenkins who is among my top choices, if he only made 5 mil that would be great. 2 guys like him and we are in a good position. Then sign a Nolan Carroll or someone who won't cost too much. Josh Robinson from the Vikings ?? Anyone know much about him?
