News: According to reports, Joey Harrington has agreed to a two-year deal with the Miami Dolphins. Detroit and Miami now have to figure out compensation for the veteran quarterback.

Analysis: Harrington will serve as the Dolphins' No. 2 quarterback behind Daunte Culpepper, though he could start the season atop the depth chart should Culpepper's knee become an issue.
 
I don't get it. Would the Dolphins be allowed to offer Harrington a contract before acquiring the rights to him?
 
this is nothing new really. the hangup is working out the compensation with detroit. i'm guessing we have to give up a 7 this year and a 6 next year.
 
Well I guess the thinking is we need to get a deal in place before we make the trade so there is no contract dispute once it's done?
 
I wouldn't give the Lions anything more than a 7th round pick for Harrington. Take it or leave it! Why should we pay more compensation for a QB that the Lions will cut in 2 months? I know it would be advantageous to have Harrington for offseason workouts, but I wouldn't let the Lions steal a pick.

Cool Guy is dead on..just went and checked out my sportsline fantasy team page..and he is exactly right....

Harrington deal is done...trade just needs to be worked out between the two teams..
