AUSTIN — Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson failed a sobriety test while operating a 30-foot boat, then resisted arrest before being shot with pepper spray and dragged ashore by officers, authorities said Sunday.

Benson faces charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest after an incident Saturday night on Lake Travis, Travis County Sheriff's Department spokesman Roger Wade said.

Shaun Alexander, check your voicemail.

Holy.....

Wow, these guys are real brilliant eh?

The Bears let the wrong RB go.

Number 4 overall pick - ouch. Makes me that much more grateful we got Ronnie from that group.

Drunk boating now?

What's next? Drunk Comcast guy installing your TV service?

I've been on a boat when a buddy of mine got a BUI (yes, thats the proper term for it, as it was stated on the ticket he received) Doing anything like drinking and driving is dangerous, but in all honesty, the boat was in the middle of a lake(Ontario) about a quarter of a mile from anyone - in broad daylight because he didn't have his inspection updated, and coast guard was pulling over everyone they saw to check. No inspection is a $35 ticket. Not to downplay it, and I don't know the actual circumstances surrounding it to really know much, but these things are just another way for the city/county/state to get money. All politics aside. There was an article here in our local paper (We are a port on Lake Ontario) just this past summer about how BUI arrested have gone up 1200% (NOT a typo) in the last 5 years. Not saying its not wrong but its not like he got someone shot and paralyzed at a strip club by damn near starting a riot (eh hem, Cowboys player) or killing someone in a DUI (eh hem, Rams player). Still dumb though

Lake Travis is policed rather vigorously because it can be rather treacherous for boaters. Being the largest lake in the Austin metro area, it is very heavily used -- especially on nice weekends like this. And the "lake" is really a flooded river basin behind a dam. While the lake is relatively full right now, you can really hurt yourself and others if you're not paying attention to what you're doing.

I think he didn't realize that his "do you know who I am" card isn't accepted around here any more. Maybe in Midland but we've moved on.

question to Parcells..... Arent you now glad Jason is Dancing with the Stars and not doing other things????

Give Saban credit

Ronnie > Benson > Caddy
As of now, the 2nd round pick running back out of University of Miami named Frank Gore is ahead of that group, though I still think Ronnie is much more talented and eventually beat him out.

Also, Cadillac Williams is ahead of Benson, it's not even close. Benson hasn't showed he belongs in this league. A product of the Vince Young "option" system in Texas.

well I for one coould see this coming because he has gotten in trouble while playing for texas . In all honesty I like Ricky and Jamall Charles but i 've always been leary of Benson .
I know my boy Morenecy in green bay hasnt been very productive but he does contribute in less then stellar ways. plus he is helping building for habitat and other charities.

Gore wasn't even an option in the top 5 picks in that draft, though he may be the best of the bunch when all is said and done.

Caddy won't beat Benson if his career ends early.

Benson is a loser, both on and off the field, as demonstrated by his arrest.

The Dolphins, and yes even Saban, was smart enough to choose the best RB of that draft...Ronnie Brown.

I beleive Benson here but just because I hate cops and think alot of them are corrupt and think they are above the law, his story is beleivable to

oops.

sounds similar to what happend to me. i had one beer and the cops beat me up for no reason to....

Interesting that "it was the sixth time that a patrol had stopped Benson's boat on Lake Travis in as many outings this year." If that is the case and I'm going to have even one beer, wouldn't it make sense to find another place to go boating?
