Cedric Benson is great

yeah, i don't see it either... big back, brings a load, but very little shake or bake... but also a drama queen, loathed in the lockerroom, and keeps running his mouth about playing second fiddle to Thomas Jones... Jones, a better receiver, and better blocker...

You spend time in the Bears locker room? Because I'm not quite sure how you know Benson is loathed in the locker room. Benson held out coming into his rookie year and there were some rumblings about it -- namely Urlacher and Brown who were reportedly upset with the situation. But Benson worked his *** off this offseason and has the full support of his teammates. Also, he doesn't "keep running his mouth about playing second fiddle". There was a report earlier in the season that Benson had stressed his displeasure with his playing time to coaches and the media however this was dispelled by Benson, Smith, and the coaching staff. FYI, a denied report isn't an illuminated fact.

Also, Jones is a better receiver, and probably a better pure runner at this point in his career, but he's not a better blocker.

Keep the hyperbolic propagandist bull**** in the PoFo please.

Actually I've read and heard reports of him not being well liked in the locker room because he is a drama queen and after holding out he came in expecting to be handed the starting job and when he wasn't he threw a fit. I've also heard that he doesn't associate with his teammates and keeps to himself. Of course this was awhile ago, things could have changed.

Like I said, that stuff was all reported back before last season. He wasn't widely favored in the locker room going into his rookie year over the whole hold out season. A lot changed this offseason though. Benson applied himself to the playbook and when Jones skipped an offseason workout, Benson was given the starting job. Urlacher, Mike Brown, and a number of other players such as Lance Briggs, John Tait, and Muhsin Muhammed have since then openly stated that they wholeheartedly accept Benson as one of the most talented players on their roster, and their running back for the future. Benson however was injured early in training camp and Jones regained the starting job.

The main incident that occured this season that put controversy around Benson was when he left the sideline early during a preseason game. Any controversy was really killed though when it was all sorted out in house. Benson claimed he had gone with a trainer to attend to soreness regarding his injury. The funny thing is that the Chicago sports media never really made a big deal about it, but it seemed all the talking heads wanted to create controversy. But my response to whats-his-name earlier was with regard to completely unsubstantiated and unjustified conmments that had no place but to really draw attention. Benson isn't a "drama queen", nor is he loathed in the locker room, and that's all I was pointing out.

I wouldnt say he's great just yet... But I would like to see him getting more carries. I think he has lots of potential. With the kind of cash theyre paying him, and the more action he's seeing this year, next year could be the year they make a decision on who starts, and move either him or Jones out of Chicago. I cant see them tying up that much cap room in two HB's. I know were doing it here in Miami when Ricky returns... but his salary is small in comparison to Ronnie's though.. so its okay. Just my two cents..
