all i have been reading how we need a big road monster center but big and strong is not what u look for in a center dont forget a center is the qb of the line.Does it help to be strong yes but its more important to be able to set your blocking for your oline and how good your technique is. All centers have strength but my opinion is not all centers have the strength of reading defenses

Alex Mack C California dude..., he has it down..., heads above the rest

I wouldn't worry about it tech. It's one thing BP and Ireland insist on is smart players. If we bring in a new center believe me he will be smarter.

If we don't upgrade why even bother..., our Center is pedestrian... we need an anchor to complement J Long and our RBs...

I agree. You need much more than strength to be a Center, or any other position on the Line for that matter. Center has to be smart. He has to be strong. He has to have great feet. It's mostly all about Technique. Hiking the ball and then quickly getting your arms up to block a huge 350 pound NT is no easy task. While it helps to be strong, Technique is the best attribute. Alex Mack has it all, and I hope we get him in the draft.

At the 27th pick... it's sometimes hard to find a good player(see john avery). However, the first center usually comes off the board around then, and the #1 Center usually has some success in the NFL, so it might not be a bad thought. A bit of a lazy way to draft, but worth consideration.

27th? i thought our pick went from 26 to 25 with how the playoff games went last weekend, not this past one,but the prior weekend...

aq shipley in the 4th round (steal).. hes an all american and trust me the kid can play football.. he was heralded as the leader of that o-line at penn state and he is great at reading defenses.. he is a little undersized at about 6'1 to 6'2 but he is strong as hell my friends...

did i mention i went to high school with the guy and played on the same high school football team? Moon area tigers in pitt pa... the kid is a legend here and he is an absolute monster

Sorry, but you said the bad word. A banned word with BP..."undersized".

With Al Johnson recovering from his injuries I don't expect us do anything else. Al was the #2 center in the 2003 draft and when healthy he runs his 40 under 5.0. Al was a qhality player with Dallas and then went to the Cardinals as free agent and was hurt most of the time. They finally released him this year for cap purposes.

If and thats a big if, he can stay healthy he is a very good starting C in the NFL.

you nailed it

it woud help for Satele to be more powerful, but it is what he has between the ears that is a big problem

Mack would be an awesome pick

Long and Mack would be like a o-line version of Duhe and Baumhower, a smashing success

Long, Smiley, Mack, Thomas, whoever
