CFL Edmonton Eskimo's runningback Jerome Messam signs with the Miami Dolphins

He will have to fight hard to make this team. If he does well maybe he can unseat Lex, and we all know how many touches Lex got.

I see Lex making the move to fullback under Philbin. I see role for him similar to Kuhn in Green Bay.

The signing is just cheap camp fodder, nothing to get excited about ... just like all teams make every year ... just a crap shoot to look-see & have enough guys to practice. (Replaces Kory Sheets, etc.)

On the bright side ... a few stars are born every year around the league ... but its a long shot. The best odds are for guys with talent who weren't mature enough to take advantage of their shot at the NFL. Wake's a good example, he bounced all around & it took him a couple years to shine.

There's a difference between running upright and being 6'3". For a 6'3" behemoth, his pad level was actually pretty nice in Edmonton. You can tell he worked on it between his days with the BC Lions and Edmonton Eskimos. He was a different player in Edmonton.

He reminds me of Lawrence Phillips a little bit. But there is some Arian Foster in him. Maybe more of a Rashad Jennings.

He's here because of the unusual aptitude he showed for the cutback game up in Edmonton under their coaching in their system. That's what intrigues me, his vision and decision making in the zone. You put that together with his linear size which makes him tough to defend in short yardage, as well as his unusual ability to make people miss in the open field, he's actually an intriguing talent.

It's the character history that worries me. He's lived through his own mistakes and matured, but he wants o be a star and at some point he will have to come to grips with the fact that in the CFL he was a big fish in a little pond but in the NFL he's playing special teams, taking short yardage work, maybe even lead back work...and is he unselfish enough to live with unselfish roles?

Tell you one thing, Daniel Thomas isn't exactly lighting anything up yet so Messam will have an opportunity there. Thomas was kind of pathetic in short yardage and goal line situations, relative to the kind of player he is supposed to be. That's low-hanging fruit for Messam, show some aptitude near the goal line and voila, you get playing time.

I was waiting for someone to say this.

Just to be clear here, if there's one thing us Canucks like even more than when a CFLer makes the NFL, it's when an actual Canadian-born player makes it in the NFL. That's what Messam is.

I know most FinHeaven-mates don't give a rat's orifice where a player comes from, but we Canadians think it's special...

Sometimes American arrogance kind of just sticks out, and that is never more apparent than in any discussion of sports. You can call it pride or nationalism, or whatever, but sometimes it is insensitive and arrogant in its appearance. I hope the guy succeeds. I would love to see him around the goal line on Sundays. How old is this kid?

Jerome Messam hasn't signed "yet" with the Dolphins. Dolphins are not offering a signing bonus and Messam wants one. No deal "yet".

were looking for a goal line guy. just look at our games. we missed Polite a wee bit i think.

Messam measured 6'3 3/4" and weighed 249 at his pre draft workout for the NFL draft. He ran in the 4.4's in the 40 yard dash out of college before going to the CFL.
