I have been watching alot of Greenway because I am interested in his upside and flexibility as a linebacker.

The more I watch him the more I get the impression that he could become a great player in Miami due in large part to his flexibility. I feel he could excel as a weak side backer when Saban runs the 4-3. I also feel he could excel as a middle linebacker in the 3-4.

I realize this may seem wierd, because of the existence of Crowder and Thomas on the roster. However, I feel that Crowder is going to eventually man the middle linebacker position both in the 4-3 and 3-4 as Zach Thomas is pushed out over the next few years (that is the nature of the business).

Whats everyone's take on this? Should I take cover?

I like Greenway....if we are not able to sign Lavar, then I think Greenway would be worth a #16 pick...I still would prefer Santonio Holmes or another receiver first.

greenway would be a great pick. some people dont like him because he doesnt test out that well. if you watch him play though, he always shows up on game day.

Not always true. I'm not saying you should judge anyone by one game but he didn't do squat in his bowl game last year.

No I don't think you need take cover because there are a lot of people here who likes Greenway. Because he has played both ILB and OLB, I think he could team with Crowder in the future to form a Dynamic Duo. However, I think we need someone more in the Jason Taylor mode to really take this defense to the next level. Someone who could be an outstanding off the edge rusher. Unfortunately, Greenway is not that type of player.

A player is the "Jason Taylor" type mode will most likely not be available when we pick. I say that because I am not sold on Manny Lawson. He does not play with real high energy all the time and is a little stiff. I think he may simply be a track start who enjoyed playing opposite Mario Williams. He looks like a 2nd rounder on tape to me.
If the draft were today, I would expect it to come down to four players.

Greenway - Holmes - Jackson - Wimbley

Would love it if Miami drafted Greenway. I think Saban is looking for a linebacker and a DT early in the draft. Someone like Greenway or Lawson at linebacker and Watson at DT.

Remember when Taylor was picked...

I do remember. And because I remember I also remember how hard Jason had to work to become the player his is today. I also remember that it took more than three years for him to play at a high level.

I have some concern, taking into account his lack of urgency on the football field, that Lawson may not have the mental aptitude to develope like Jason did.

Im not big on Greenway. If we don't sign LaVar, Id rather Lawson, or Carpenter

I agree with that...Jason is in a class by himself...

I am not 100% sold on Lawson...fast, yes, but you have to wonder how much of his success was attributed to the guy he was playing next to.

But, break down some of the other OLB candidates and you'll find flaws with just about all of them.

With 16, I would still go for a WR...I truly believe we need to give Culpepper more weapons.

Like I said, I think it will come down to four player. Greenway - Holmes - Jackson - Wimbley.

I like Holmes alot. I like Jackson alot, but not as much as Holmes. I like Greenway and I like Wimbley.

I expect Wimbley to be gone. I expect at least one of the two wide recievers to be gone. Greenway should be there.

I don't like Lawson or Carpenter at 16. I think they are in the 25-35 range. I think Carpenter is better than Lawson.

Wrong. Chad Greenway was forced into coverage a good bit in that game, and he did a hell of a job. I watched the tape of that game no more than two weeks ago. Chad Greenway had to cover the super fast Chad Jackson, who was in the slot, inside the 20 yard line, and Greenway blanketed him. Chad Jackson got no separation from Greenway.

Chad Greenway is the best coverage linebacker in this draft. I love his work ethic, the intensity he brings to every down, and his overall attitude about the game. Mentally, he's a great fit for a Nick Saban coached football team, because he is going to bring it on every down. Plus, he's one of the smartest players in this entire draft.

Personaly, I think he's a great fit for the Dolphins. Not a lot has been said about Chad Greenway and the Miami Dolphins, but he's a great fit. His versatility is a key. I believe he can play any of the linebacker positions in the Dolphins defense. He can play the SAM, MIKE, and WILL in Nick's 4-3 scheme. As far as his pass rushing skills go, Chad wasn't asked to do that much at the college level. Kirk Ferentz runs a similar defense to what Nick runs, but it's not as blitz heavy. Chad Greenway played the WILL position in this defense and wasn't asked to blitz much. However, Chad looked great in the pass rushing drills at the combine. Now, that might not say much, but for a guy who wasn't asked to blitz a lot, he had the best rip and swim move out of all the linebackers that worked out at the combine.
