Just let me start off saying that I want our starting QB to be whoever gives the Miami Dolphins the best opportunity to finally return to the playoffs in the near future. With that being said I am also a die hard Ohio State fan and I wonder if that is clouding my views on Henne. Anyways, I have had limited chances to see Henne since he has signed with Dolphins being in North Carolina, but from the preseason game and what I have read in training camp here are my views on what is going on.

Chad Pennington is going to be the Dolphins starter come week one versus the Jets. When he signed that 11 million dollar contract it became a fact. No matter what QB is here or how well they play in preseason, it doesn't matter. He is our starter come opening day.

John Beck has decent accuracy, knowing when to check down, and he doesn't throw INTs. What concerns me though is that he seems like he still hasn't adjusted to the speed of the NFL, hoding on to the ball too long, etc. Beck might have the potential to be a decent QB, but his age is a question. He might not have the time to develop before he starts to slow down. All in all, I see John Beck's career in the NFL like Charlie Batch. Where he is capable of coming off the bench and helping a team win. I am starting to think that he will never be a full time starter though.

Chad Henne is a rookie and he has the potential to be a solid NFL quarterback. There are still a lot of issues and bad habits that concern me from his time a UM. He is an enigma. One side you have a guy with a cannon for an arm and who can take a hit, then get right back up. Then the other side is a QB that can be inaccurate, that has a bad pocket presence, and folds under pressure.

During Miami's preseason game you see Henne a beautiful strike to pick-up a first on 3-18 and then you see he is 5-10. He just is not consistant with his throws. The film that I have seem from him, a lot of that is due to pressure that he feels. Chad Henne gets happy feet when he takes a couple of shots. He will start to throw the ball everywhere and off target. Watch his tapes against Florida in the bowl game this year and the last 2 years against Ohio State. I also think that he folds under pressure of big games. Look at his track record 0-4 against Ohio State the biggest game of the season and the bowls against Florida and USC, Henne played horrible. I read one here people liked the confidence tha Heene has shown so far in training camp and preseason, but thats just it the games don't matter.

Like I said previously I think Henne has the tools to be a good NFL QB, but he still needs a ton of work. You just don't break bad habits quickly, I hope that under the eye of this coaching staff and veteran a QB like Pennington he can develop. Anyone here who thinks that Henne is ready to play in the NFL has an active imagination, it will take two years at least before he could be ready to see the field.

I would say 2 things differently. I personally dont think John Beck will amount ot anything. I just don't feel someone who fumbles as much as him can make it. And what you said, he can't adjust 2 the speed of the game. So i dont think he will be anything in this league after his tenure here.

And for Henne, I think he will turn into something great for us. You said he has bad pocket presence... But when he hit that completion for the first down on 3rd and 18 he stepped up into the pocket beautifully when being rushed from both sides. His pocket presence looked pretty decent in that game. I can't speak for his college career, I didn't really watch him in college so...

That concerns me. I want to see more of him before they put him in front of Beck. I have been one of Beck's supporters and I am not saying this becuase I favor Beck. I really want to see more of BOTH of these QBs. Henne is a Miami Dolphin and I support him too:up: Unfortunately we don't seem to have enough pre season and practice snaps to go around:( Pretty soon the Jets come to town and those snaps are going to be for real:loco:

How many of those 5 incompletions were dropped passes? Not that both Qbs didnt have passes dropped by our receivers.

It all boils down to confidence and decisions. Beck throw away into the back of the line of scrimage as a dangerous one. some ref may have called that a intentional grounding and I wouldn't have been surprised if he got one there. But overall I was pleased with Becks performance. The fumble was a little reminisent of last year though.

Henne isn't going anywhere.. that we know. I think he'll be a 3rd stringer for the year. It's Beck and McCown fighting for the backup job. Beck may be a very serviceable backup in the league for many years. Beck needs to mature. Although he's 27-28 or so, he's a immature 27-28. He doesn't talk with confidence. I just don't see it. Others have said Im wrong, but I'll stand behind my comments in saying Beck is a boy in a mans body, playing a brutal mans sport. He just needs time to mature. I just don't the time is what the Trifecta will give him.

I would have to disagree with the bad pocket presence comment of Henne based on what i saw from that first preseason game. He seemed cool, calm and showed a lot of poise in the pocket. Pretty impressive display for a rookie though.

where is this coming from????

did you watch him at Michigan? First of all this is the ultimate team game and the close games they lost they lost as a team! It wasn't Henne's play!

If you did watch you may have seen in his Freshmen year the triple over time victory agianst Michigan St???

Maybe you saw that same year the record tying performance agianst Texas in the Rosebowl?

Maybe lets move it up, I'm sure you saw the game agianst Florida in the Capital one bowl???? The one he stood on his head and one MVP????

I'm sure you know that Henne completed 828 of 1,387 passes for 9,715 yards, 87 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions in his career at Michigan, which is a school record and second in Big Ten history!

I'm not saying this because I want Henne to start this year and the other QB's suck, I'm pointed oput that your arguement is flaud.

There is no evidence that because of Chad Henne Michigan directly resulted in losses. They were IMO beat by better teams.

These types of arguements about any individule player drive me crazy. I don't care who the player is.

Henne showed great pocket presence during the preseason game.

Also, dont judge a QB from his college days.

Dan Marino - Threw more INT's than TD's his senior year at Pitt. He was the 5th drafted QB because of that.

Excellent post.

Um, I don't know where anyone gets off claiming Henne was "clutch" in college. The guy has made a creer out of choking.

He lost every big game he's ever been involved in, couldn't beat OSU, couldn't beat Texas, and his 3rd ranked team got rolled at home against Appalachian State for their opener.

Beating Michigan State? Are you ****ing kidding me? The Big 10 is easily the most overrated conference in the country, too, so this was all done against inferior talent. That's a fact, too, 'cause when you look at every NFL roster they're made up of players from the SEC #1, ACC #2 and the Big 10 is bringing up the rear.

Say whatever you want about Henne's physical talents, but the guy has NEVER won a big game, sans the Outback bowl, which meant nothing, anyway.

It's distressing to me that we drafted 2 players within the first two rounds from a team as blatantly overrated as Michigan.

and because of alleged drug use (or atleast that's what my dad has told me)

Did you watch any of the games he played in college, or are you basing your opinion on box scores?

I live in Detroit, so it's a physical impossibility for me to not see him play. I'm not even a Michigan fan, and any UM fan will tell you the guy is subpar. He's John Navarre with a bigger arm.

so he lost to Florida in 08 in the Capital one Bowl?

It was because of his play and his play alone that they lost to Ohio St.?

He doesn't hold second in Big Ten passing touchdowns totals?

oh and buddy FYI.....

Over the past five years, an average of 36.6 Big Ten athletes have been chosen in the NFL Draft on an annual basis, including six first-round selections per year. The Big Ten and the SEC are the only two conferences to boast an average of at least 36 players.

yeah it sounds like it's over rated and Henne performed agianst inferior talent.

Also Ohio St. over the past 5 years have had 39 players chosen by NFL teams. That ranks first in the Nation. Other Big Ten programs to produce 20 or more NFL draft picks since 2003 include Michigan (23), Penn State (21), Iowa (20) and Wisconsin (20), while Purdue has recorded 18 NFL draftees during that time.

It sounds like the Big ten is some weak compition. Ohio st. beat Michigan because they were the better team.

Maybe come back and talk to me when your arguement makes sense.
