Chad Henne Era OVER in Miami. Franchise QB #1 Priority

KC I think is about to go on a mini-run. I don't think they're a threat for the #1 overall pick.

As for the Colts, they are a threat, so I agree with you. Let's root for them to get lucky. But the thing to hope for there is that Manning keeps improving apparently as much as he has. They're saying now he could (at least be available to) return late in the season. If he gets all the way back and the doctors sign off on it it's going to be hard for the Colts to take Luck. Manning is only 35 and could play another 5 years. The stars on that team are aging and they might want to make another good push as long as Freeney and Wayne and Bethea and those guys can still play.

Yep, but god bless them the colts are playing hard. They had chances to win either of their last two games. Painter missed that one throw that could of given the colts a chance to win against Pitt. I just pray Manning plays this year. We really really really need to lose when we play KC and Denver

the thing i'm noticing about the colts is i know they like to rotate freeney and mathis in and out a lot but it seemed to me last week against tampa they were out a lot more than usual...but that may just be me being paranoid...

or it could be a sign of they're not all in on winning...probably a little early for the latter though

as for seattle no doubt they're in play but that division might help us cause they're all bad teams and watching elway salivate over luck on the sideline last night i think denver may green light losing before long also...ie tebow under center

it doesn't matter if THIS FO gets it or not. they won't be here next year. the question is does Stephen Ross get it? if he does, I'm willing to bet whatever FO we get next year is flat out told TO DRAFT A QB IN THE FIRST.

These reports are interesting since none of this Miami coaching staff or front office will be next year to make those decisions.

"yapping"....."poor me"...no wonder when teams come here to play it's like a home game to them..reading this cra## on this board will make your head hurt..

All i can say is thank you Lex Hilliard. Hilliard's gaf on that draw is the kinda play that changes a whole organization like the tuck rule or something. I mean who knows if Henne did not get injured. He might of led us to an 8-8 season and we are stuck with him for another year of misery. We have now go a chance to get Luck or Landry Jones or even Griffin. I don't care. Someone now besides Henne next year will get a chance.

Who would you have traded up for?

Freeman was within reach in 2009 but that was following the 2008 season with Pennington and the Dolphins winning the division. QB wasn't a top priority for the Dolphins that year. The Jets traded up that year for Sanchez, how did that work out for them? Henne was still viewed by most as a potential franchise QB.

The 2010 draft, Bradford was drafted first and there is no way the Rams were giving up that pick. The second QB taken was Tebow and the third was Clausen. You want either of those guys?

The 2011 draft, no chance of getting Newton. Maybe you have a shot at trading up for Locker, Gabbert or Ponder but how much are those guys really worth? How much are you willing to give away for any of those guys and was trading up even an option?

I'm not trying to defend the FO, just pointing out that the Dolphins have had crap options when it came to getting a great QB in the draft.
None of the QB's besides Newton warranted a trade up....Maybe Gabbert, but Ponder & co.?

I'm sorry, but had this been purely on grades then needs;Ponder,Locker are 2nd rounders at best.Only Newton & Gabbert had business being drafted in the first round.I thought Kaeparnick shouldn't have been touch til the 3 in the earliest rather Dalton was right where he should be.Don't even get me started on Clausen and Quinn.Last,I thought Josh Freeman was going to be the best QB out of the 2009 draft and I still do.

How many times have the Dolphins had the first pick in the draft? What are the chances really of getting that pick now? 4% maybe?

Never count on a 4% chance of saving yourself.

I way of improving those odds are with draft picks or players to trade. This is one reason that I would trade P Soliai and B Marshall. If we get a couple of 2nd rounds picks for them, we would have a much better chance of getting the QB we want in the draft.

The difference between us having the 6th pick and the 1st pick is HUGE. As I hope most of us realize, other teams also want QB A Luck.

Again...I hate to bring madden into this.......But I have the Dolphins in 4 online franchises (I took the Panthers in one) and all are using Myleaguemanger.net so all the salaries, contracts, free agents etc are pretty much the same as in the real NFL.

First thing I did (when possible because they were hard to trade) was trade away P Soliai (too much money and I play a 4-3) and Brandon Marshall (too much money and a lack of speed). I was even able to trade C Henne is two of the leagues.

First thing I do as a new "owner" or "GM" is to cut salary, trade or release older players like Colombo etc. In the draft i'm going to be looking for a franchise QB. D Thomas is getting a 100 yards per game for me, Bush does little.

We should expect this team to be blown up when a new HC and GM comes in.

I have the Dolphins in one sim league on tradtionsports. I keep Marshall on top of the receiving boards season in and season out. Marshall runs excellent routes and holds onto everything (not true in real life). I also keep the 3-4. Reggie is a great Madden player because of his speed. Thomas not so much because of the 83 speed but I'm able to power out some good yardage still. Even Chad is acceptable, I had him as MVP and a superbowl champ in one season. I guess it depends on stick skill but it is a sim league, none of that lobby trash. Its tough with the corners behind Smith and Davis, I like to draft or trade for a slot corner who can cover the crossing routes.

Find me an article that said Henne was a potential franchise QB ? I want to see that.

All I remember seeing and hearing is that he would be a serviceable QB, a game manager type. The type that Parcells wanted because we were to be a run 1st team.

Please link to that "potential franchise QB" article......oh and nothing from MiamiDolphins.com please.

heres the other thing tho. why NOT bring in competition to the QB position if u have an unproven guy? jimmy johnson did it in Dallas by spending a 1st round pick on Steve Walsh in the supplemental i believe. and they HAD troy aikman. how did that work out? then at least u have potentially 2 guys that can handle the position. they didnt KNOW what they had in Henne. what they DID KNOW is they STILL didnt have a franchise guy - even IF henne had a chance to develop. with Josh Freeman IN REACH they SHOULD HAVE still made an attempt. they doubled up at EVERY OTHER POSITION OF NEED. why not double up at QB???

what aree u going to do - draft a guy EVERY FOUR YEARS AND HOPE????? keep drafting until you HAVE ONE!!!

CH was given more rope to develop than any other QB in the history of the game...I mean...24 mths ago he was struggling while we all watched him game after game implode right in front of our faces. I suggested way back then that he was in over his head and should learn the game holding a clip board and hope to be a modern day Don Strock for some lucky team. However, CH was put out there game after sorry game ...many times to his embarrassment, many times to our bewilderment. I searched one day to see if he was married into the Ross family. The good news is now we will move on...I look forward to the day CH is never again mentioned on a FH post.
