Does anyone here see a great similarity between Jay Cutler and Chad Henne? To be sure, I am hoping Henne will turn out better than Cutler, but it seems they both have very strong arms, the confidence to force the ball in there at times, and also prone to making mistakes because of their tendencies to force these balls in there.

Not only that, they seem to both have very similar mechanics in their throws, though Henne seems to be more mobile than is Cutler.

Of course, when one forces it in there and makes the play, he's a hero. But if he throws the interception, he's the goat for the week. That's just life.

What I do mean is this: that if given a number-one receiver, Henne can have the upper-20s touchdowns, 4,000-yard seasons like Cutler did in Denver, and although he will probably never be top 5, Henne is the type of quarterback who can be viewed as the missing piece/cornerstone of a franchise, and that most general managers in the league would pull the trigger for a trade because they see him as valuable.

I say all this, of course, to mean we've got a good thing going on - not a great thing (yet? ever?) but good enough, and we're in a position that some other teams would do anything for, at the QB position.

I can see that. Funny thing is they both also have the most horrific WR corps in the NFL. They both lack any semblance of having a #1.

Both a "franchise" Q.B's with no weapons, both young enough to build around, both play on teams that are rebuilding, both look good enough to be in this league for a long time.

While i can see how people could view them as similar, after watching Cutler the past few years i personally dont believe they can be lumped together.

From a physical standpoint they seem to be close to identical, both are 6-3, both are 230ish pounds(Cutler: 233, Henne: 230), both are young(Cutler: 26, Henne: 24), and both have a reputation for strong arms and mobility. All that said, Cutler seems to be a tad bit more mobile(Denver had a laundry list of roll out plays designed for him) and his arm strength is a hairs better(would say possibly only Stafford and maybe Flacco are peers with him in that department). Not to say Henne doesnt have a great rollout or arm strength, just that if Cutler scored a 10 in those departments, Henne would be a 9.8 or so.

That being said, Henne is miles ahead of Cutler in some of the most crucial areas of football. Accuracy, reads, "being smart"(ie, checking down or throwing it away), fumbling....i could go on and on. Henne's interception numbers have been misleading, with a good portion of them literally bouncing off our "receivers" hands, and while he has had some "welcome to the NFL moments"(read, Titans game), Henne is generally smart and doesnt seem to have the tendency to force the ball....at least not nearly to the degree of Cutler.

While i listed some of the things above that i personally feel Henne is better then Cutler with, their are 2 just as important factors that should be considered: leadership and dedication. Henne seems to be taking the Pennington approach, feeding off game tapes and desiring to be a student of the game, where as Cutler throws the game plan out the window and starts slinging it(usually to the other team), and when it goes wrong he avoids seeking corrections.
As well, having listened to most of Cutlers post game press conferances(at least while in Denver), on top of watching him interact with other players during games, Jay just has utterly no accountability and consistently throws his teammates under the bus(the majority of the time, the teammate being Brandon Marshall, though the defense got a few jabs here and there). With america watching the little prima donna act this past offseason with McDaniels, to go along with the Phillip Rivers spat, i hope people could hardly argue with this declaration about his lack of leadership. His immaturity on and off the field simply made it to difficult for players in Denver to rally behind him, and now it seems like the same is happening in Chicago.

Cutler had one good season(and another decent one) behind one of the best offensive lines in football, one of the best wideout cores in football, and a running attack that could sub in cheerleaders and still rack up 100 yards a game. His disaster with the Bears was hardly a surprise, and his most telling stat should be how he has yet to have a winning season.

If you want to compare Henne to someone, i think you gotta look at Flacco. Get Henne some weapons, and respected writers such as Peter King will stop saying "this guy will be great" and start saying "this guy is amazing".

Cutler had a great WR corps in denver and still sucked.

i dont see it, cutler forces in way more balls than henne and he doesnt seem as smart with his throws in general, cutler is a favre wannabe...

I don't think he sucked in Denver....it was no defense/ no running game

He does seem to suck now in Chicago though.

Bit of an exaggeration calling the receivers he had in Denver great. Marshall is a very good receiver but Royal's production has dipped dramitacally since Cutler left, meaning Royals's game was actually elevated by Cutler.

Stokley is/was always injured and Walker was non-existant when Cutler started the season in 2007.

Talent-wise, there are a lot of similarities. However, they are polar opposites mentally, which is where Cutler's biggest faults lie.

I hope Henne sure doesnt end up anything like Cutler. Cutler is one of the most overrated QB's in the league.

Physically they have many similarities but they don't play the game alike. You can tell most of Henne's mistakes have come when he's been under pressure and he has panicked and thrown the ball off balance and such. Hopefully this will be corrected with some more experience and coaching. For example, when he threw the game-ending interception against the titans, the pocket was coming towards him but there was no one next to him or behind him. With a bit more experience, we would have been able to step back a bit and extend the play like Roethlisberger or Mcnabb.

I agree, he hasn't been forcing much at all. at least 4 of his INT's were tipped. imo, Henne is way more careful with the ball than Cutler.

No i don't see similarities and i live in Colorado and got to watch him all last year and a good bit this year.
So no i do not. They are very very different in style and attitude.
