I was curious if anyone knows how Chad Henne has looked in practice if there has been any article or video talking about how he is coming along. Regardless of record he shouldn't start until next season IMO so this isnt a thread asking for him to start. I'm just eager to see how he is coming along.

Good question

I remember hearing all the reports about how good he looked in preseason and training camp. And of course he looked good in the partial 4th quarter he played in at Arizona (although it was something of a mopping up effort) but ever since we made the Patriots come crashing back to Earth it's been silent on the Henne front.

Iv heard he has done well... Far better than Brian Brohm. But no way he will start this year or next year if Pennington wins us 6-8 games.

I think he is doing well. Well enough that if Pennington were to get injured, that the coaching staff would have no problem letting Henne run this team.

Chad Henne is the future QB of this team, the big question is when they will actually turn the reigns over to him. As long as Pennington stays healthy this year, I think it is his team. However, do we go with Pennington again in 09'? Or make the switch to Henne?

Depends. I think if the powers that be decide that the rest of the team is in place to move forward with then we could make the switch. If they feel like there are still too many holes they might roll with Pennington for another season while the kinks get worked out.

The best thing that could happen for Henne is to back-up Pennington for a year or two. CP surely would be a great mentor and he can get a feel how diificult it is to succeed in this league. I'm excited to know we have a couple of QB's in line that might turn out to be great QB's.

The nice thing about Pennington is that he has expressed interest in finishing his career with the Dolphins. He even said he would love to remain even if that means he becomes the #2 behind Henne. I love having Pennington on this team and many have called him a coach in waiting. He definitely helps this team and will continue helping even if he does become the #2 down the road.

the best thing is the phins keep getting better with pennington and Henne gets a few years to develop

I dont see a timetable to put Henne in. If he performs well enough in practice and Pennington struggles by all means play him this year. Thats only if they think he is ready. Clearly Beck was not ready last year but all Qb's are not the same. Matt Ryan seems to be doing a credible job as a rookie and Henne seems to have the makeup to do well. If he does not play this season then have a competition next season and if he is better than Pennington start him. Im not about these imaginary timetables that tell u when to play a young qb there is no perfect answer. Steve Young started early in his career then sat 5 or more years and then took over a pro bowl laden team and became a great Qb but no team has those luxories anymore.

I agree, as long as Penny keeps us in the games we won't see Henne, except for mop up. That is fine with me, no need to rush him. As far as Brian Brohm goes, GB has 2 rookie QB's, and when Rodgers left the game the one picked in the 7th round came in to replace him. Forgot his name, but I believe it was the kid out of San Diego State.

It was Matt Flynn out of LSU....the kid out of San Diego state is on the pats i think O'Connell is his name

Far better than our second year qb also. I do think Brohm will be a much better NFL Qb than Flynn.

if cp ends up tanking some games i dont think parcells will hesitate to put in henne this year....and IMO i think he will be our starter opening day next season, just because he has more to offer to the offense then pennington

You guys THINK he is the future just like a year ago many thought Beck was the future. If Pennington stays healthy Henne may not get to see the field for a long time.

that's fine with me. as long as the best man plays, i really don't care who it is. i can't imagine Henne would give us a better chance to win this year or maybe even next, and Pennington has a two-year deal, so i think we'll see Pennington in '09 also (as long as he's healthy of course).
