I haven't been on here in a few weeks. People are REALLY bashing Chad Henne? SERIOUSLY?? PROS:

-doesn't turn the ball over

-decent completion percentage (despite all the drops on well thrown balls)

-very strong arm

-poise in the pocket, scrambles and slides in the pocket pretty well

CONS

-still takes too many sacks

-some of his touch passes are off

It also doesn't help that the WRs are sub par, and that's just being nice. I wish I knew where I could get stats on drops for every game, but I watch all the game and count at least 4 drops every game that should've been caught. Mr. Ginn is right up there in most dropped passes in the NFL:

As you can see, Henne hasn't been a world beater, but HE DOESN'T MAKE CRUCIAL MISTAKES. That's HUGE for being essentially a rookie. With the exception of the Saints game, he hasn't thrown any picks, and one of those picks was all on Ginn, since he bobbled a perfectly thrown pass.

Am I missing something? This guy was essentially "redshirted" last year, starting for the first time this year, and you don't see him throwing up all over himself like other QBs have in the past in their first year. (i.e. Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Drew Brees) Obviously, we have no idea if Henne will be close to those three, but c'mon! Give him time to mature before we cast judgement!

What he's displayed on the field since he's been starting is very positive. I guess people were expecting him to step on the field from day 1 and be Dan Marino? Sheesh. Amazing.

Henne is the only person that hasnt sucked (besides our RB's) props to him, we're good at QB.

Great post. Now hopefully everyone bashing Henne can see that there is a learning curve in becoming a great NFL QB and it isn't something that happens instantaneously.

We have too many people on this forum who don't know anything about football. They want perfection and they want it now.

Look at Peyton Mannings rookie year and tell me how many INT he threw kids.

Bashing Henne is infantile.

The things I like best about Henne are that he's physically and mentally strong. If he takes a big shot, he just bounces back up. If he makes a mistake, he just blanks it out. That's the complete opposite of Beck

All his minus points are coachable I think. I don't think they'll be signing another QB for next season

As long as Henne gets better at his deficiencies and isn't stagnant, he'll be fine.

I haven't seen too many people blaming or bashing Henne, just a few. I think most understand our problems lie at the WR position and an upgrade at TE wouldn't hurt either.

Hard to compare QBs today with QBs from earlier eras. BTW the first two games you have listed for Marino were not starts. His first start was his 3rd game against Buffalo.

I was watching the replay of the Colts Texans game last nite....late in the game, Texans were going for it on 4th down....I think everyone in the stadium knew Schuab was going to be looking for Johnson....and he still caught the ball for a 1st down...

Got me thinking, if the fins are in say 4th and 7 and have to have it, who is our go to guy??? Right there is the problem....

I don't want to bash Henne, but the people crowning him already are just as bad as people saying he sucks. He hasn't done anything great yet other than the 4th quarter against the Jets. He has played ok, but I still am not sold that he is going to be a good qb. I am also not sold that he is a bad qb. I say before crowning or bashing him let's see what he does the rest of the way.

It's been 5 starts people!!!!!! Stats for 5 games on any player to start their career doesn't give you nearly enough information to form an opinion either way! It's like the thread comparing Henne to Brady, these stat's don't mean sh*t. I bet the stats on some of history's "bust" QB's would look virtually the same as these.

If you know anything about statistics you know that you have to have a sufficient sample size of data before you can make a good determination of what you're seeing. Five games just isn't enough data folks.

Also note that all of the other QB's on your list, except for maybe Brees, were very high 1st round draft picks with a long leash because thier franchise made them "the man" when they drafted them. Henne was a 2nd round pick, and I don't think that the front office would hesitate to move quickly on if Henne doesn't impress.

Henne's positives far out weigh his negatives. Yes, at times takes too many sacks and holds onto the ball too long. But, that is definitely fixable with more game time and experience. He will get quicker at his reads and start to "feel" the pressure comming. Give the kid time, I think he is going to be a good one.

It is just like every other aspect in life. YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO PLAESE THEM ALL! Personally I think he is doing way better then expected! He gets little help from his receivers, throw this stat in there our receivers drop a average of 5 catchable balls in his starts. Unlike other people I also think him going to the sideline for the wildcat/pistol actually helps him, it gives him a chance to look at how the defense is moving and flowing with the ball. Not to mention his pass attempts have been at or over 30 for a few games and that is a lot for a Qb at his stage. What is hurting him right now is how aggressive defense are playing, stacking the line overloading the box, and blitzing. Henning and company really need to spread things out and go deep a few times to back the defenses off the kid!

You need about 30 starts to determine which direction a young quarterback is moving in....

Unless it's just blatantly obvious that the guy doesn't have what it takes from the get go....

Stats do not mean anything...

But i have watched every game he has played in ...

And def like what I see...

I would like to see him check at the line more...

I also would like to see him go deep more...

But cant say that is on him might be on the play calling...

All in all we have been in the games against very good teams..

And Henne has been a big part of it..

He keep our team on the filed on 3rd downs..

Classic quote by John Elway.." A quarterbacks job is to convert 3rd downs.. the first 2 downs is the rest of teams job to get yards for the 3rd down"

I messed it up but its something to that affect

I think this is our vanilla offense, every week we are seeing the same result when defenses start blitzing. Even at the beginning of the season with Penny we struggled with hot routes.
