I'm thrilled with the signing of Chad, not just because of the leadership that he brings to the team but because it allows for our team to progress in the right manner, while limiting the growing pains that we would have felt with the current crop of QB's on our roster.

Team unity is critical in football. We have a very young, inexperienced roster that lost the heart and soul of the D in Zach and Taylor. On the other side of the coin we had a young and inexperienced offense with no real leader, no established WR threat and a line that will take some time gel. We can all get excited about Ronnie but we won't know how durable he is until the season starts. In terms of trusting Ricky, we can't forget his past dealings with the team.

The signing of Chad can help STABILIZE the team on both sides of the ball. Time of possession was looking very bleak with the QB's on the roster, and by having the inexperienced D on the field a majority of the game, I can only imagine how the locker room would feel after the offense put them in position to be on the field for 40 minutes a game.... Look at what poor TOP did to us last year.... We CAN NOT PUT OUR D in that position.

So, in my humble opinion, Chad was brought here to give us stability, not just in the form of mentoring Henne or Beck, not just in the form of moving the chains and giving us first downs. Firstly, he provides veteran leadership in the huddle for an offense that doesn't have a leader. Second, he minimizes the pain the d was going to have to go through by managing a smart game and evening out TOP, thirdly he has the football IQ to mentor a young QB like Henne. So for me this signing is a WIN WIN WIN situation!!!!!!

Excellent points, Bumrush. A ball control offense helps the defense tremendously.

Great post...

Damn right. Of course I think Chad will be a great teacher for both Beck and Henne. He certainly gives this team a lot more stability than Chainsaw Charlie ever would have. Man, let me tell ya.... That guy really sucks!

chad pennington sux and will not help this team out whatsoever. he throws the ball like my grandmother and she may even have a stronger arm than he does. u can say all you want about his completion percentage and his leadership and all that crap, he throws a lame duck past 10 yards thus y his percentage is high...all his throws are 15 yards or less. our team has deep threat recievers in ginn and hagen but we wont be able to utilize them. bad move by tuna!!!! start Beck!!

i think it's more the success of the running game than chad pennington that will help our defense

of course, if chad can't make the defense pay over the top we're gonna see a lot of defenders within 5 yards of the los

Pennington won't go to the Pro Bowl and he won't break records. But he will give us a real passing game and put us in competition.

Actually, the success of our running game will open up another dimension that Chad has shown he can excel at.. Play action. He may not have the strongest arm in the world but he can hit an open receiver deep down the field. Hopefully we can learn to hold on to ball.

agreed, but if the running game isn't working play action is worthless.

For a running game to be effective, you have to convert on 3rd down, so you can keep running the ball. Chad is smart enough and accurate enough, so he may give us that ability.

don't forget chad is master of the short passing game, in other words he keeps the chains moving... equal long drives, which tire a defense out, as we are well aware. so he will keep our d off the field more and they'll be fresh for the 4th quarter...

That brings up an even better point.. With a power running game, you can expect a couple of breakaway runs from either Ricky or Ronnie in the 4th quarter.. If our offense and can dink and dunk them to tiredness... God would a nice 65 yard TD to win the game having me jumping like a maniac!!!

He fits in perfect with what we're going to do on offense this year.

Parcells and Sparano are probably in shock this guy just dropped in to their laps. It makes this painful season a lot more bearable to endure, especially if we can 6-8 games and stay competitive in 4 more..

Great post dude!

I sure hope so.

I do agree that he brings much needed leadership and he is definitely a really smart QB. He may not be the most gifted physically but he will win us games for sure.
