I'm thrilled with the signing of Chad, not just because of the leadership that he brings to the team but because it allows for our team to progress in the right manner, while limiting the growing pains that we would have felt with the current crop of QB's on our roster.
Team unity is critical in football. We have a very young, inexperienced roster that lost the heart and soul of the D in Zach and Taylor. On the other side of the coin we had a young and inexperienced offense with no real leader, no established WR threat and a line that will take some time gel. We can all get excited about Ronnie but we won't know how durable he is until the season starts. In terms of trusting Ricky, we can't forget his past dealings with the team.
The signing of Chad can help STABILIZE the team on both sides of the ball. Time of possession was looking very bleak with the QB's on the roster, and by having the inexperienced D on the field a majority of the game, I can only imagine how the locker room would feel after the offense put them in position to be on the field for 40 minutes a game.... Look at what poor TOP did to us last year.... We CAN NOT PUT OUR D in that position.
So, in my humble opinion, Chad was brought here to give us stability, not just in the form of mentoring Henne or Beck, not just in the form of moving the chains and giving us first downs. Firstly, he provides veteran leadership in the huddle for an offense that doesn't have a leader. Second, he minimizes the pain the d was going to have to go through by managing a smart game and evening out TOP, thirdly he has the football IQ to mentor a young QB like Henne. So for me this signing is a WIN WIN WIN situation!!!!!!
