By the middle of last season, MIA moved Chambers to the slot and he torched the safeties, linebackers, and nicklebacks of the opposing teams.

In the Steelers game they resorted to moving him back to deep threat like they did in the beginning of last season. Have they not learned???

This is why I was upset that Campbell stayed injured. I was hoping that he would be our 3rd receiver and we would move Chambers to the slot.

Earth to Saban: Get yourself a speedster to play 3rd receiver and move Chambers back to the slot. Keep Welker in on 4 WR sets.

We dont need to change anything we have a perfect slot guy in Welker...you will all be back on the Chris, Ronnie, Saban, Culpepper bandwagon next Sunday after we beat the Bills by 20.

Yes I was flamed by a bunch of you that next week is a must win which I still believe it is but what is all this knocking on individual players.

Did Chambers have a good game maybe/maybe not

For those that think he had a bad game if he keeps this up he will finish with

80 catches
944 yards

He had an average game. You can't have 10 cathes 150 yards and 2 TD's all the time hopefully we get 3 games like this. Our receiving is one of the strengths in our team

In the redzone he definitely needs to be moved to the slot, unless it's a fade or one of those quick turn arounds which failed on Thursday. That is where he picked up quite a few of those 11 TD's. I agree with this 100% though - Chambers lined up on the outside on every play, which is just HORRIBLE playcalling by Mularkey. I've never seen anything like it. Every other Pro Bowl receiver in the league gets some type of play inside, because this game is all about trying to create mismatches..

Find me a better slot guy then Welker and then we can talk. Chambers is the #1 guy for a reason.
Do you think that being a #1 receiver means that you have to line-up on the outside? No way. Hines Ward very often lined up in the slot, with Cedric Wilson & Santonio Holmes on the outside. It's called creating mismatches for your best receiver. Whenever Chambers slides into the slot, you don't put a small Wes Welker on the outside in his place - you throw Derek Hagan in there instead, because with his size, coaches aren't just going to throw anyone on him who he can use size as an advantage.

You don't pay a WR that kind of money to play slot. Even if you did, who would be our #1 receiver?

There is nothing wrong with putting Chambers in the slot during 3+ WR sets. Not ALL the time mind you, but mixing it up every now and then would definitely help. The goal is to create missmatches and exploit them. They did it quite a few times last season with Chambers, my guess is they'll do it again sometime this year as well.

if chambers doesnt drop that 1 ball he has 6 catches for 70 yards 1 td, on pace to do better than last year -_-

other teams arent totally stupid they arent gonna put slow linebackers on chambers esecially after his great season last season even if he is in the slot they can still move there main corner to mark him

The point is, the combo of Chambers, Welker, and Booker is better than Hagan, Chambers, and Booker at this point. The reason you don't put Chambers in the slot is because you'd really lose a lot more outside having Hagan in the game instead of Welker. Now a play here and there is fine for mismatches, but overall Welker is a hell of a slot guy, especially compared to how good Hagan is flanking out wide at this point in his career.
