Chambers was a guest on The Drive yesterday on Fox sports radio, and after listening to his comments, I'm even more convinced that it is time for him to be traded. Now, it isn't that he bashed the team, per say, it was very subtle. Still, you could tell that he is unhappy here at the moment.
When he was asked about the QB position, he stated that as soon as Culpepper is healthy, he needs to start. He went on to say that Daunte never had a chance to prove himself, and that he can make a lot of throws that Joey "just can't". When he was asked about Saban, there were no words of commendation or defense for his coach...he kind of hemmed and hawed about Saban before giving the "He's learning how the NFL works" and will bring things around eventually standard answer.
Now, I'm not saying this is why Chambers should be traded, I think his performance on the field speaks for itself in that regard. What I am saying is that Chambers appears to have reached a level of frustration that can't possibly allow him to be effective on the field. He isn't accepting a leadership role, nor is he displaying mental toughness, rather, he is showing a victim's mentality. No matter what your record or who your QB is, you defend your team and players until the offseason...at least when you are talking to the national media. Saban often refers to "family matters"...to me, that is a key component of Saban's team building style. Chambers has a very different philosophy on the issue. I just can't see him reaching his full potential (if he hasn't already) under Saban in Miami.
The time has come to trade.
