Yeah it's early, but we're starting to see what the needs of different teams and we're also getting a look at prospects. First rounder for now, with explanations. Comments welcome and encouraged as always. Order is current draft order.

1.Oakland Raiders-Amari Cooper WR, Alabama The Raiders could go a number ways and you could make a valid case. While this is a bit off the wall, and taking a WR number 1 isn't normal, The Raiders just need to get Derrick Carr some weapons. Cooper is having a monster year and is almost assuredly a top 5 pick unless he bombs everything in the draft process.

2.Jacksonville Jaguars- Leonard Williams, DE/DT, USC While the Jags have a decent D-Line already, Williams may be too good to pass up.

3.New York Jets-Marcus Marriota QB, Oregon If Cooper is there the Jets will rush to take him even with the Jets trading for Percy Harvin. I guess this depends on how Geno does the rest of the year. I guess this also will be decided based on what changes are made in New York.

4.Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Jamis Winston QB, Florida State I am not a fan of Mike Glennon and Lovie Smith's first year in Tampa has been a bit of a disaster. While Winston has some serious character concerns you can't deny his talents, and the Bucs do have a solid front.

5.Tennessee Titans-Randy Gregory DE/OLB, Nebraska The Titans have really struggled getting to the QB this year. While QB will be considered due to Locker's health concerns and him being a free agent, Ken Wisenhunt has proven in his time as a head coach he likes to think outside the box with QBs (plus the team really likes Zach Mettenberger)

6.Minnesota Vikings-Todd Gurley RB, Georgia Whether Adrian Peterson is back or not I do not know (though with how Peterson has acted since being suspended the answer may be now), but the Vikings could use more talent on offense either way. Matt Asiatta is a short yardage back and nothing else while Jerrick McKinnion needs to prove he can carry the load.

7.Washington Redskins-Cedric Ogbuehi, OT Texas A&M The Redskins need help in the secondary and on the OL. Ogbuehi arguably is a top 3 pick in the draft, and can be plugged in at 4 positions on the OL. Seems like an easy pick.

8.Atlanta Falcons- Shawn Oakman DE, Baylor Atlanta's defense is bad... REALLY bad. Time to get a young pass rusher.

9.St. Louis Rams-Connor Cook QB, Michigan State Sam Bradford is constantly injured, and while Austin Davis has done a decent job filling in, he's not a starting QB. Cook has great intangibles, but needs to get a bit more consistent with decision making. Still outside of WR, hard to pinpoint a huge need.

10.New Orleans Saints-Vic Beasley OLB/DE Clemson After taking a big step forward last year on defense, the Saints took 2 giant steps back. Just adding talent.

11.New York Giants-Andrus Peat OT, Stanford The Giants offense has slowly improved, but the OL is still a bit of an issue especially LT. Peat is not a finished product yet, but has a lot of potential.

12.Chicago Bears-Landon Collins S, Alabama The Bears need to add talent defensively. Another CB to pair with Kyle Fuller is a possibility, but the safety position is a huge weakness. Collins is another guy whose arguably a top 10 pick.

13.Pittsburgh Steelers-Marcus Peters CB, Washington The Steelers just have to start getting younger. The team has invested fairly heavily in corners in recent years between rounds 2 and 4 but only 2 developed (Keenan Allen and Cortez Allen). Keenan went to New Orleans in free agency last year.

14.Cleveland Browns-Brandon Scherff OT/OG, Iowa The left side of the OL is really good when healthy, the right side not so much.

15.Miami Dolphins-Sammie Coates WR, Auburn You know what? I really want to give us Shaq Thompson at LB, but the more I watch the team the more I realize that WR will probably need upgraded. Mike Wallace has had a great second year, and Jarvis Landry is emerging, but it's becoming more and more obvious that Brian Hartline will not be as effective in this offense and Brandon Gibson has been a scratch the last 2 weeks (this week a healthy one). With Rishard Matthews not really getting chances, adding another weapon would not be a bad idea. Coates adds size and speed to the offense, something we are missing. As a Michigan fan I really considered Devin Funchess, but I think Coates fits the offense a bit more. Again though, I REALLY like Shaq Thompson for this defense.

16.Houston Texans-Ifo Ekpre-Olomu CB, Oregon While QB is a possibility, if the draft plays out like this I think the Texans will stand pat. Kareem Jackson and Jonathan Joseph have really struggled this year so adding a CB is a good idea.

17.Seattle Seahawks-Devin Funchess WR, Michigan The Seattle passing game is filled with receivers that are okay but not great. Funchess has great athleticism and height. Depending on how he finishes the year and how he runs, he could go a lot higher than this. Funch also has to work on making the easy catches as he tends to make spectacular ones but messes up the easy ones.

18.Kansas City Chiefs-Kelvin White WR, West Virginia Dwyane Bowe is no longer a number 1 WR, and the passing offense has basically just become RBs and Travis Kelce. Chiefs have to get some young blood in.

19.Carolina Panthers- Trae Waynes CB, Michigan State DE is an option with Greg Hardy's future being in the air, CB has been an issue since Chris Gamble retired and with how bad the pass defense has been this year I don't think they can overlook it anymore.

20.Cleveland Browns-Jalen Strong WR, Arizona State Cleveland will be getting Josh Gordon back, but the receiving options after him are not good. Strong is probably more likely to be a second round pick, but he's a big strong WR that will help a young QB

21.San Francisco 49ers- Ronald Darby CB, Florida State The 9ers secondary has taken a step back this year. Last year's first round pick Jimmy Ward is more of a safety/nickle player so time to find a young boundary guy.

22.Cincinnati Bengals- Shaq Thompson LB, Washington Vontaze Burfict has been dealing with injuries this year and the Bengals defense is not the same without him on the field. Shaq is a former safety turned LB that would add more speed to the defense.

23.New England Patriots- Shalique Calhoun DE, Michigan State BPA, and kind of fits a need. Chandler Jones is becoming a dominant DE, but the rest is nothing to write home about.

24.Detroit Lions-Melvin Gordon RB, Wisconsin The Lions run game has struggled this year, and I do feel that adding a consistent runner (which they've never really had) would take some pressure off of the passing attack.

25.Green Bay Packers-Danny Shelton NT, Washington With BJ Raji out the D-Line for the Packers hasn't been great, and he prefers to play more as a DE. Shelton gives them that option.

26.San Diego Chargers- La'el Collins OT, LSU King Dunlap has been better at LT since going to the Chargers, but I don't trust him long term.

27.Indianapolis Colts-Shane Ray OLB/DE, Mizzou Even when Robert Mathis comes back he's on the wrong side of 30 and Bjoern Werner has been a disappointment. Need a consistent pass rusher.

28.Baltimore Ravens TY Yeldon RB, Alabama Justin Forsett has been a pleasant surprise but Bernard Pierce has really let the Ravens down as a powerback.

29.Arizona Cardinals-Michael Bennett DL, Ohio State Darnelle Dockett is out for the year and is 33. Time to start looking for the future.

30.Philadelphia Eagles-PJ Williams CB, Florida State The Eagles pass defense has been a bit better this year (with no help from our very own Nolan Carroll), but they could still use a bit of help at CB.

31.Dallas Cowboys-Eddie Goldman DT, Florida State Goldman has been the best linemen for Florida State this year. While the Dallas D has been better this year, they still need to upgrade DT.

32.Denver Broncos Benardrick McKinney LB, Mississippi State Denver just adds young talent to their defense

Coates would be a terrific pick for a team like Miami. I don't think people realize that this kid is built exactly like a young Terrell Owens was when he came out of Chattanooga.... with virtually the exact same skillset. Even right down to the improvements that need to be made. They're both from south Alabama.

He hasn't been healthy all season and he's been running around on what amounts to one wheel this year. I've been watching him since he was in high school. Physically he's developed into as impressive of a specimen as a WR can be.

Two best picks in your draft are Melvin Gordon to Detroit at #24 and Shane Ray to Indianapolis at #27. Two worst are Darby and Calhoun at #21 and #23 overall.

not a fan of the players or just bad fits? It's a bit tougher this year as for various reasons I haven't been able to watch as much college football so I'm basing a lot of things off of guys I've seen and reputation.

Little bit too high for the players in my opinion is all. I have them as 2nd rounders. Although I'm not necessarily in a position to speak on fits and/or what every team's needs are. That's not really my thing. I'd say you probably done an outstanding job there.

I think Melvin Gordon to Detroit and Shane Ray to Indianapolis both make too much sense, along with being incredible steals in terms of talent that late in the 1st round. I would imagine both of those teams would be beyond thrilled if they were to land these two players where you have them going.

Coates is interesting, but if Ekpre-Olamu is still there I don't see how Miami passes. Both starting CB are vets, and small. The backups are....not ready/good. IEO would be a great fit, help shore up a thin spot, and start the next gen transition. I think Miami needs a safety more, but with Collins gone I don't see another 1st rd safety.

I'll take Funchess but I am wondering if he'll play outside or go back to TE. Good size, speed and athleticism. Provides that nice big target the Dolphins need.

Funchess is a flex TE similar to Ebron, but even worse as an inline blocker. I'm a huge Sammie Coates fan but with Tannehill at QB, I don't see how he fits as his best attribute is his deep speed but I really like him. I have Kevin White as my #2 WR. He's a superior player to Kelvin Benjamin in every aspect besides size.

IOE is the same exact height as Brent Grimes.. 5'9 1/4

I didn't write well. I meant to suggest that at his height he'd fit in with our starting CBs. It's not like Finnegan/Grimes would be mentoring a 6'2" CB with a different physical makeup/skill set. Everyone wants big corners, I want really good ones.

i think coates game is a little too raw for my taste with that pick...if it broke that way i'd be looking hard at gordon and ekpre olomu..olomu would upgrade the slot corner something fierce from jimmy wilson...provide a physical presence and tackler in the mold of antoine winfield and he can also play on the boundary but he needs to come in at 5 ft 10 otherwise he's looking at being pegged for the nickle draft value...

calhoun is seriously overrated...amari cooper wont test well enough to get top pick overall consideration nor does he have the size you look for to consider it...great player but someones gonna get that lower than they should

randy gregorys not big enough to play an every down de...although his game looks more ideal fit as it...still he's undersized i think he has to show what he can do in a 2 point stance come the combine and 34 teams look at him as an every down olb...gregory reminds me of a more polished but similar undersized player to uvas eli harold...they both look to me like situational rushers in a 43...explosive kids but run downhill right at in the run game...i know that gregorys got a better frame but they both are limited with their physical size and measurables for the 43

gregory doesnt look like a guy to me that you can project to play off the los in a 43 at sam on early downs...sure looks like he needs and wants to play on the los and getting upfield as much as possible

any qb taken over jameis winston while possible on system fits looks like a dumb one to me...i think you change your system if winston doesnt fit and you need a qb...i'd run that card up

there's no doubt hartlines got to go this offseason...he's wasting snaps in this offense and a brutal fit...and i'm over it...

yeah that's how i see it also...his games very raw but he's got great physical tools...kevin white seems more polished to me and i like his game for our offense more...coates needs a lot of development...just my initial read on it havent dug very far in at this time

Hoops, glad to see you're getting up to speed on the draft. I would take Gordon there forsure. BPA. But Kevin White, Shaq Thompson, and Shane Ray would get serious consideration. In one of Slimm's thread I made the comparison of Ray to Wake. He really does have that kind of first step explosion. Not big on player comps but I really like that one. I actually prefer IOE at FS rather than CB. But if you're gonna draft him as a CB it's in a scheme like this. Jairus Byrd, and Tyrann Mathieu are two of many who have made the transition. I think IOE can do it. Agreed Calhoun is overrated. I don't see him as a top 50 guy at all. Too early for me to say where exactly because my grades ( you can see them in my thread "Final Grades/Rankings 2015) are nowhere near complete. Amari Cooper reportedly ran 4.3 for scouts at Alabama's pro day. Gregory definitely has the fluidness to play 3-4 OLB. He's like Dion Jordan coming out but higher motor, better pass rusher. DJ was better in coverage. That's what is rare about them usually high cut guys like that can't bend, and they are both extremely fluid. Hartline is the 20th highest paid WR by APY. He makes more than Roddy, Welker, Boldin, and Emmanuel. If they cut him in the off-season they save 3.125 million, and they are projected to be 1.4 over the cap. Ellerbe saves 5.6, Finnegan 5.4, and Wheeler only 20k. I'd be shocked if any of them are back next year.

i wouldn't draft ieo at safety if its true he's 5 ft 9 and some change...i have rules about certain position and i tend to stick to them no boundary starting corners or starting safeties under 5 ft 10 too many limitations in coverage vs seam tight ends with size etc at safety...if i was drafting him it would likely be at that size nickle corner

i agree bpa looks like melvin gordon all day long...and i wouldnt hesitate to pair him with lamar miller despite the lack of real size at rb and damien williams or a late round downhill masher in this offense...

cooper looks like he will test more like a reggie wayne to me...similar physical abilities and size...excellent route running i dont buy any 4.3 flat type stuff there...i guess we will see...

ekpre olomus size means he's likely gonna be on the board in the 20's still...especially if he's pegged for the nickle...which i think he has more abilities than...

i havent seen this ray guy but if he's similar to wake that means he has some stiff hips and some rediculous ability to bend and ankle flexion and maintain balance and explosion at a 45 degree angle almost and serious power and strength in his hands plus leg drive...will have to check that out

vic beasleys 34 wolb all the way to me if you want an every down player...

Here's three cut ups for you on Ray:

I didn't say 4.30 for Cooper, but in the 4'3s. Here's the link: http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2014/03/alabama_amari_cooper_40-yard_d.html

He's probably a 4.42-4.46 guy IMO. I don't think he's 4.30 but I don't think he's 4.55 either.

Here are measurements for Earl and Mathieu.. Earl is 5102, Mathieu is 5086. IOE is 5092. Which basically means Earl is 5'10 1/4, Mathieu is 5'8 3/4, and IEO is 5'9 1/4. I wouldn't draft him to ever man up with a TE. He would play man to man on a slot in man free and zero coverage and in cover 3 play middle of the field. He's already shown he can man up in the slot. He's a willing tackler with 80 something last year. The only projection you have to make is will he be able to play middle of the field. I say yes, it might take a little adjusting but he has the instincts and range to do so.

You can check out my thread (it's the position I have the most grades for) but as far as pass rushers go I have Ray #1, Beasley #2, and Gregory #3.

It's more about the rare explosion off the ball that Ray has than bend with the Wake comparison
