I think Chan would be a fine head coach provided Dom signs his damn contract offer and keeps the defense intact. With Randy feeding them both talent the team will improve. Dismantling or changing our defense, which is the best asset we have, would be foolish. Chan would make the most of our current offensive personnel and has never had a back like RB to work with before, much less RW and Pep if they come back.
The 80/20 Principle asserts that there is an inbuilt imbalance between inputs and outputs, causes and consequences, and effort and result. It states that a minority of causes, inputs or effort usually lead to a majority of the result, outputs or rewards. A few things are important; most are not. Defense is, offense not as much with our current roster.
We will never have the Rams offense of the late 90's with our roster, face the facts. Our defense is important now because it's our strength, the offense if it can get in the top 15-20 range will make the team a playoff contender. The potential is there for it to even be better with the right coordinator. Chan makes sense for this reason. He will be able to come in and get our offense there or close. Without worrying about the draft and GM responsibilities he would be a perfect fit.
We leave alone the 20 percent of our efforts that are accounting for 80 percent of our success (defense), and address the weakness that is holding us back (offense) without going overboard.
Chan will be fine. Its not the sexy pick but its the pragmatic one.

Pragmatic, now there a word that truly describes Wayne, and the reason for his lack of vision. It shouldn't be very surprising that Wayne likes Gailey, afterall the man got started in the garbage business.....:sidelol:

PHINZ RULE!!!!

The 80/20 Principle asserts that : Wayne has only a 20% chance of hiring the right coach and 80% chance we will be having this conversation again in two years.

don't know about you guys but after this previous season I like the idea of playing conservative next season, this year despite having the talent to do so we passed the ball most of the time. even when out running game was working we passed the ball. next year we have Ricky and Ronnie at RB, it would be a disappointment if we didn't run the ball alot. good teams do play smashmouth football if they have a great defense but a lacking passing game which is what we have. look at the Chicago Bears for example, they are on of the best teams in the league and they do it with defense and the running game

Chan will be good for this offense especially if RW comes back able to play. 'Vision' is a relative thing and usually evaluated in hindsight. A lot of it has to do with luck. Well if we get Chan we are ruling luck out because he is a proven commodity, we know what to expect and that is fine. We aren't going to turn into the #1 offense overnight, but somewhere in the 10-20 range would be great. BTW SB Dreamer you may need to brush up on your understanding of what 80/20 is.
