It seems like when fans talk of the upcoming season that there are differing expectations. For many reasons fans have different opinions. I wanted to talk about the QB spot. Some have mentioned that C. Penn is a year older and will face harder defenses. And that the surprise factor of our offense last year will be figured out, possibly like the Ravens did.

So we have this guy, C. Hen, that is waiting in the wings with a season of learning under his belt and that much more fire in his belly to get on the field. Sparano has said that if we are far ahead or far behind in a game, he'd put Henne in. I cant remeber the exact quote.

I am proposing a possibility. If Henne does great or very good in the preseason against first teams, and the "He's got to start sometime" mentality gets stronger, what's the possibility he begins his career as a starter this year?

I say 35-40% he starts, IF he has an outstanding camp and preseason.
Thoughts?

i think theres a better chance than most people would expect...

i think in practices Henne is already at Penny's level and thats why the coaching staff has made it pretty obvious that Henne is gonna be the starter in 2011... i think the coaching staff recognizes the limitations Penny puts on our offense and how those can be lifted with Henne... but they are hesitant with Penny's leadership how a transition might work, but if Henne is clearly outplaying Penny early, i wouldn't be surprised to see the switch...

Unless Pennington is injured in TC or preseason, Henne won't start the season as the starter. If for some reason Miami is out of contention midway through the season, then I could see them make the switch.

I hope so, I hope Miami makes the same mistake we did and throws away Pennington. It took you guys years and years to find a quality NFL QB again, one that led you to a div title coming off a 1-15 season. W/o Chad last year you guys aren't close to the playoffs, I hope you start Henne.

His chances are slim and none.

Unless Pennington gets hurt, there's a 0.000% chance Henne starts.

You can take that to the bank.

Don't think anyone would argue we'd be a similar team without Pennington last year. We don't know, though, how good Henne will be. He won't start the season as the starter, but if things don't go as planned, Henne will get his chance. Henne will have every opportunity to succeed - learning under one of the smartest QB's to ever play the position. He has the physical tools. He looked very good last season in the Arizona game - can't attach too much significance to that, but it's something.

By this time next year, Henne ought to be ready to lead the team.

I'd say no chance of starting the season unless Penny gets hurt in PS.. Why, because even if he does well in PS, you have to remember each team we play is being very vanilla, he won't see the same thing in the regular season... especially this PS because we're playing the same teams we're playing in the regular season..which I really don't like... but the coaches might, just to see some of the talent up close and personal they'll be up against..

He would have to be AWE INSPIRING to start, and Penne would have to struggle.

Think - Jeff Hostetler (Giants of the '80's).

Pennington is the QB until injury.

.01% chance

I'm as big a {can't wait to see what Henne can do} person as there is in here, but it would be dumb, Pennington is our QB, and will continue to be our QB until our coaching staff decides Penny is not the best option....if it's not broke, don't try to fix it.

What the dolphins should do is let fans come to the games early and see who can throw it the longest. Whoever that may be gets to start that game.

Can we get over the weak arm crap. L. Coles had no problems getting open on fly patterns and Penny had no problems getting him the ball. Nor did Santana Moss. Neither of those two had huge jumps in YPC after Penny was no longer their QBs. And on the flea flicker to Ginn, Penny threw it 55 yards in the air. 55 yards is long enough. True that was about as far as he can get it and true he is not gonna beat a lot of corners on the deep out in the NFL, but give me a freaking break. QBing is not about who has the best arm. This isn't Madden. Decisions matter 10X as much as who has the better arm. I got an idea, let's see what Ryan Leaf is up to these days. He has a great arm.

I am not saying Henne is not the future of the franchise, I beleive he is. But it will be because of what is in his head, not because of what is up his sleeve.

I will take 214 YDS, 2TDs, 0 INT, and 33 minutes TOP over 330 YDS 4 TDs, 2 INT, and 29 minutes TOP. QBing is about taking care of the ball and controling the clock while putting your team in the best position to win the game. GAME MANAGEMENT!!!
It's not about putting up 500 yds a game and trying to force that ball between the corner and the saftey on the last drive just because you have a great arm.

Brains > Brawn/arm, everyday, all day, and twice on Sunday!!
