Wide receiver Rishard Matthews has labored to work his way up the Miami Dolphins' depth chart for three straight seasons.
He made it onto the Dolphins' 53-man roster as a seventh-round pick in 2012 and participated on special teams. He was productive when his number was called in 2013, and he even thrived as a starter when opportunities presented themselves because of injuries.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill slides across the grass as he prepares to pass during an NFL football organized team activity, Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at the Dolphins training facility in Davie, Fla.
However, the former Nevada standout isn't happy with his status on the 2015 team. He and his representatives have requested a trade or his release, and according to sources they haven't backed off from that position even though Matthews is attending this week's organized team activity sessions.
"I'm not worried about that," Matthews said when asked Tuesday if he's getting a fair opportunity in Miami's receiver unit, which added veterans Kenny Stills and Greg Jennings and first-round pick DeVante Parker this offseason.
All three receivers leapfrogged Matthews on the depth chart.
"I'm here to show them that I need to be on the field to help them win," said Matthews, who has caught 64 passes for 734 yards and four touchdowns in his three seasons. "That's why I'm here for the first day of OTAs."
