My roommates here we're talking about this earlier today and it was an interesting subject. They were talking about how they heard that the NFL was talking about changing up the playoffs, by adding two more teams. Does anybody know anymore information about this? Or even your point of view on the subject? I have no idea what I think about the idea yet...

Yeah they were talking about that on one of the sports shows. I don't think that they should expand the playoffs. Having only 6 spots in each conference is what makes things more competitive. Every game that a team plays can have an affect on what their playoff chances will be.

I think I agree... I just think that we had a screwed up year this year....

if you add 2 more you have problems

1- thats 14 teams, almost half the NFL

2- Then you have 7 teams in each conference, which is an odd number and cant be used in the playoffs unless you give a team a 2 week bye in the playoffs

No, then you only give the #1 team a bye and the playoffs are still 3 weeks plus super bowl.

Not true. It still works, the difference being only the top-seed in each conference get a first-round bye.
It's good from a fan point of view. You would get 3 games on Saturday AND 3 games on Sunday during the first round of the playoffs. I kinda like the idea.

they better not do this, then we might have teams that are like 8-8 goin to the playoffs, and i dont think an 8-8 team deserves to go to the playoffs

Exacly. I think the format is perfect as it is.

My thoughts on this:

If anything, they should either reduce the playoff field to 4 or increase it to 16. Get rid of the damn "bye".

And let's consider if the field is expanded to 14--all that is going to do is increase the number of lackluster opening round playoff games. When you stop to think about how boring wild card weekend can often be (and before some of you start railing, keep in mind I said CAN be, I'm aware the Music City Miracle exists), why would we want teams even more mediocre entering the playoffs?

That said, this might be the AFC's best wild card week in quite a while.

14 is just too many. most of the time there are teams in the playoffs that are 9-7 or 8-8. with the 14 you'll see a 7-9 team in there eventually. it reminds me of the BCS, which people always have new ideas for every year, only because it fits the situations of that season
