This isn't another "this player sucks, cut him" kind of thread so nobody jump on me about that...anyways....I do think that Crowder is a good linebacker but I just don't see the future superstar linebacker in him that a lot of folks on these boards and in the media too, say about him. I see a guy that is a real quick, good sized linebacker that is a solid tackler. I don't think he is particularly good in pass coverage and his blitzing skills seem to be very suspect. Off the top of my head, Im pretty sure he doesn't have more than two sacks in his career thus far. Don't quote me on that number, I didn't look it up. So the real point of my thread is asking if others feel the same way about him too...or if Im just being completely blind to his skillllzzz. Either way, I'd like some constructive feed back. Hopefully some of you folks can re-ignite the excitment I once had for him. I do realize too, though, he is just starting his second year so Im still holding off complete judgement. ryan.

sounds like a player i want on my team for years to come

well... one thing he does that I like is deliver very nice hits. Last year some of his collisions ended up with the other player being taken out. I dont think he will ever really be an elite linebacker, but I do think he is probably going to be above average.

Thats not my point...I want him on the team and as a starter for a long time, I just don't see the superstar qualities a lot of folks have heaped on him.

Nope don't expect any pass rushing out of him. At least not at this stage of his career. I think it is more out of design as the coaching staff recognizes his strength as vs. the run and it is not necessarily expected out of him to be a stud pass rusher. He is a sure tackle with very good technique. Don't understand knock against his coverage skills. IMHO this is not necessarily suspect.

So far he has been a solid addition to this team. Superstar? No, but a solid player who is appreciated here.

Yeah, he's a solid LB , just not spectacular.. Similar to Dwight Hollier and Chris Singleton in the 90's .. Although Crowder is a tad faster than Hollier.

If only he could rush the passer like Joey Porter .

his second season guys one game in. if he was an elite lb at all aspects he would have been taken in the top ten, not the third round.

give him time he will refine the areas hes having trouble in and be elite. oh btw, its not going to happen over night. but his upside is there

You're overreacting. He did play tentatively on Thursday, but he's a headbanger, who's smart. Those guys are hard to come by. He'll continue to improve over the years rather than level off. Look for him to be an All-Pro by his fourth season.

in Madden 06 he gets reeeeeeeeeeal good, like one of the top defensive players in the game, but thats madden, just my two cents

I expect more out of him this year in terms of pass rush. We didn't get enough pressure last week and I think Saban will up the ante on the blitz in future weeks and let Crowder get into the blitzing aspect more.

You could disect his pass coverage and blitz skills all day long, and I believe you are right. As far as being a star, he is a fast, nasty linebacker who makes alot of tackles. Its all about attitiude

If you ask me Crowder is very impressive:
  • He only played two seasons of college ball.
  • He was a big part of our Defense last year as a third round rookie.
  • He is only 22 years old.
You all may not find this near as impressive as me, but it says a lot about the guy. I don't know if he'll be a superstar, but he sure as hell is heading in the right direction.

I don't know if he will ever reach superstar status or not, its only his second season so who knows, but I sure as heck want him on my team!

Crowder is starter quality at this point, and looks like he could become pretty good in the future, but I agree he dont look like a future superstar at this point.

It is, however, worth noting that he's playing out of position. Crowder has pretty good size, but he's not playing his best possible position. Right now he is playing the run down ILB position, which mostly involves dirty work like taking on blockers and shooting gaps.

He's a much better fit for the MLB position he is due to inherit when Zach is gone.
